In statement B: reduce 3/9 by dividing the numerator and the denominator by 3:
3/9=1/3. We can cancel down both expressions by 1/3 . 
Now we need to compare between 6/7 and 7/8. The bigger the denominator, the
more parts the whole is divided into, and the more parts there are, the smaller
each part gets. Therefore, 7/8 which equals 1­1/8 is greater than 6/7 which equals
1­1/7.

Straightforward calculation (more time consuming): 
find a common denominator. the smallest common denominator for 6/7 and 7/8 is
56 (found by multiplying the denominators).
6/7=48/56; 7/8=49/56; 6/7<7/8
