M2-5 MY CURATOR POST- TASK ACTIVITY

After I interview Ms. Estrella via email, this is her answers:

1. Name/course earned/year
a. Name:
Katrina Mae DG. Estrella
b. Course earned:
-Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Library Science
-Currently enrolled in the Master in Library and Information Science Program of CEU Graduate School

c. Year graduated:
-2004
2. How long have they been working in CEU as librarian?
-3 years and 7 months
3. What is/are their specific assignment and what do they do?
-Ms. Estrella said “During this pandemic and now that we’ve shifted from face-to-face to online learning
or the “new normal,” I am assigned as one of the Virtual Help Desk Librarians.

My main task is to provide reference service to students and faculty and help them retrieve references in
different virtual platforms. I also update our online collection by downloading eBooks and eJournals to
supplement the lessons. Right now, I am assigned to assist the School of Medical Technology but I am
also trying to reach out even other colleges in any ways I can help everyone with their information needs.
My other tasks include preparation of pathfinders and library orientation.”
4. How long is their working hour?
-Ms. Estrella said “I am officially paid to work from Monday-Friday from 1:00-5:00pm but I’ve always
made myself available to assist and answer our patrons all throughout the day and even at the wee hours
of the night (24/7). I guess it’s the fact that I am a true-blooded Escolarian that made me feel that I need
to do more of what I can do, and I want to do more of what I am paid for.”
5. Do they love their job? Why?
-Ms. Estrella said “I do. I love my job because it is not just about working with various information, it is
also more of assisting and learning from the experiences every single time. It is also rewarding to be able
to help others be one step closer to being the professional they are aiming to become. Being a librarian is
being exposed to a variety of different fields. It isn’t focus on one degree or profession but in all different
kinds of careers.”
6. Will they recommend the job to students who are still undecided on what course to take? Why?
-Ms. Estrella said “I would definitely recommend this job to students but not because they are undecided
on what course to take. If they are willing to learn more beyond a single profession, if they are the
service-oriented type of persons, if they are creative and if they wanted to experience a professional life
that’s way beyond the knowledge that books provide and that the library walls can offer. When you are a
librarian, there are a lot of other careers you can take on once you finished the 4 year course and passed
the board examination. Aside from taking a masters degree, other work options behind this profession are:
archivist, curator, database administrator, information architect, media specialist, publishing manager,
program consultant, research analyst and many others.”
