Worksheet #1
NAME: Alfredo S. Mandia III
Cell Theory Timeline Notes

Research and complete the following Cell theory timeline with scientist name and a summary of their
contribution

Date  Scientist  Contribution
Robert Hooke has provided many contributions. Especially in
various scientific fields ranging from physics, chemistry, anatomy,
Robert Hooke biology and so much more. His main contribution was to the
1665  discover of cells while looking at a thin slice of cork. He then

alleged that cells only exists in plants and fungi

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek was one of the first people to observe
microorganisms, using a microscope that he designed. As well as
Antonie van being the father of microbiology, van Leeuwenhoek laid
the foundations of plant anatomy and became an expert on
1683  Leeuwenhoek animal reproduction. He discovered blood cells and
microscopic nematodes, and studied the structure of wood
and crystals. He also made over 500 microscopes to view
   specific objects.
By the late 1830s, botanist Matthias Schleiden and
zoologist Theodor Schwann were studying tissues and
Theodor Schwann and proposed the unified cell theory. ... The unified cell
1838  Matthias Schleiden   theory states that: all living things are composed of one or
more cells; the cell is the basic unit of life; and
new cells arise from existing cells. They have thought of its

compact definition to as how they are the basic unit,

The German biologist Theodor Schwann (1810-1882) is
considered a founder of the cell theory. He also discovered
Theodor Schwann pepsin, the first digestive enzyme prepared from animal
1839  tissue, and experimented to disprove spontaneous

generation  He also contributed to sharing information about the
   animal cell and its components.
Virchow's cellular theory was encapsulated in the epigram
Omnis cellula e cellula ("all cells (come) from cells"), which
Rudolf Virchow   he published in 1855. (The epigram was actually coined by
1855     François-Vincent Raspail, but popularized by Virchow.)   He
concluded that all cells come from preexisting cells. He
concluded that cells are the basic units of structure and
function of all living things.

Questions – Answer the following questions based on your knowledge of the Cell Theory.

1. What invention made it possible to see cells for the first time?

2. What are the 3 parts of the Cell Theory?

The Three Parts Include

1. All Organisms are made of cells.
2. All existing cells are produced by other living cells
3. The cell is the most basic unit of life
