Thermen Haarlemmermeer is an ambitious ‘state

of the art’ design for a large-scale sauna- and wellness

complex located in the vicinity of Amsterdam.

The site is part of the ‘park of the 21st century’, a big

leisure development in a park setting. Following the
parallel structure of the adjacent highway, waterways
and a sound wall, the building is protected, yet at the
same time clearly visible as a new landmark. Special
features include ‘the geysers’ and ‘the eye’ (main
entrance on a higher level, marked by an oval glass
opening).

A tour around the world in the sauna complex will be

the thematic approach of this complex, which is meant
to be the largest in the world.
The building is divided into eight zones, allowing the
visitor to travel around the world. At one end you
can experience a nordic landscape with iceberg-
like shapes, on the other side organic, tropical
surroundings.

A ‘river’ flows through the whole complex connecting

the different areas, which changes in shape, function
and temperature in compliance with the characteristics
and climate of each zone.
The challenge is to create a real abstract representation
of the countries of origin, without being kitsch.

The building itself is a stretched volume with a large

‘eye’ overlooking the polder. The eye also provides the
entrance to the complex at the first floor level. Here
the reception area, dressing rooms and beauty centre
are located. From there you are lead over the shower
balcony, over wide staircases into the sauna area.
The gardens provided little sauna cabins related to
the theme’s of the tour around the world.

The façade finishing are polycarbonate panels with

multi layered prints, allowing daylight to enter and
making the building glow at night.

For the low budget hotel Ashlee House in the
centre of London an interior design was made for the
reception area and the lounge.

The former reception area of the Ashlee House Hotel

consisted of a rather messy perimeter wall and a
reception desk one would expect in a ski hut rather
than a hip hotel. The space itself had a lot of potential
due to the large window alongside the sidewalk and
the wooden floor. It was the intention of the client to
look for design as a method to restyle the lobby.

The old wall of the storage room and the office space
are hidden behind a new curved wall covering up the
uneven spots.

The especially for the Ashlee House designed

wallpaper shows tourist information and transforms
the space into a hip hangout. Images and textures are
fading into each other and are printed on the semi
transparent mesh of the wallpaper. Images that stand
out like the subway map and images of foggy London
give easy reference to the visiting tourist of the hotel.
The lampposts in the wallpaper will light up at night,
giving a surrealistic effect from the outside.

Using the quality of the windows as a ‘shop window’

for displaying the lounging guests as advertisement
for the hotel was translated into the design of the
couch.

This special feature is a custom made design by

24H>architecture products for the lobby of the hotel,
where seating arrangements are introduced that
encourages people to meet and talk. The couch is
covered with brown – snake print – leather and has a
backrest that is finished with sheep fur.

24H architecture designed the interior for a design
hostel in a former courthouse located in the centre of
London. This monument, with it’s listed monumental
rooms, is to be reused as a youth hostel with
approximately 600 beds.

The main issue to make the building accessible was

to provide a clear design to allow guests to get their
bearings in the building. To structure the building and
the routes the main corridors are connected as a ring
with sub corridors as wings. The different parts and
levels will have their own language and atmosphere
to create vertical and horizontal difference so guests
can find their way to the rooms.

There are a several spaces with their own particular

atmosphere and interior quality. Among these rooms
are the internet room, the lounge bar, the lobby, the
kitchen, the dining room and the bar.
The internet room, lounge bar and reception desk are
each placed in a monumental courtroom. The design
of these new elements belong the one family each with
their own specific design. New functions are integrated
in new self-standing volumes with a low tech, robust
and pure atmosphere. The new structures are made
of steel columns with wooden structure. The cladding
is made of wooden banisters with a three-dimensional
cover that will be finished with red polyester mats.

Each room will provide space for 2 to 16 beds combined

in single or bunk bed format. Specials elements will be
integrated in the beds like storage and safety boxes,
lighting and private panels. The rooms are always
related to the theme of the level.

The wellbeing of a person is directly related to
their environment. This means that the complete
environment of a wellsness concept requires a lot
of detail and attention. Both nature and natural
materials are for most people a context they feel at
eas e with and therefore this forms the basis for the
development of the Thermen Boed d ha.

This led to a strategy of addition to the existing

complex. Utilising the present entrance and the
surrounding location, emphasizing a natural and
landscape design .

O ld and new together form a silhouette of a bird,

floating above the land. The wings being the new
addition and the tail contains the existing building.

Thus a new organic element is placed that blends in

with the vast polder landscape . At the same time a
new bold image is created for a new function. By
re - shaping the gardens of the wellness complex, it
seems the existing landscape is complementary to
the new outdoor program.

A one hour drive from Lisbon, a 100 ha cork oak and
pine forest will be converted into a cutting-edge eco
friendly golf and holiday resort. The 24H-architecture
design will be developed by the local Vallaim company
and consists of an 18 holes golf course and several
nature related activities like horseback riding and
canoeing on the 17 hectares private lake. Both
activities and architecture are in balance with the
stunning natural environment.

The high-end golf course consists of a ‘forest loop’ and

a ‘water loop’, including teeing off from the elevated
clubhouse’s grass roof and several ‘island shots’.
Apart from playability and aesthetics, sustainability
is an important aspect of the design. The natural
environment will be respected and strategies for
waste, water and energy management are developed.

The hotel and spa complex will provide the guests

with a luxurious, small scale, eco friendly setting

will be constructed with local natural materials like
