What motivates you to conduct this study?

 One of the reason that motivates us to conduct this study is the fact that there are many people
nowadays died because of smoking tobacco. We all know that one of the reason of lung cancer
is the act of smoking. That’s why the government implemented the smoking ban law to protect
the citizens from these hazardous products and to promote a healthful environment. Due to
this, the researchers wants to determine the level of awareness of the smokers towards the
smoking ban law especially that some of the smokers are the youths.

How will you choose your participants?

 We will choose our participants through a convenience sampling technique.

What is a convenience sampling technique?

Convenience sampling is a type of sampling where the first available primary data source will be used for
the research without additional requirements. In other words, this sampling method involves getting a
participant wherever you can find them and wherever is convenient.

What is the locale of your study?

 The locale of the study will be the municipality of Balilihan specifically the 8 barangays of
Balilihan namely, Del Carmen Este, Del Carmen Norte, Boyog Proper, Cantalid, Magsija,
Hanopol .

Why do you choose these barangay to be the locale of your study?

 We chose the Del Carmen Este because these are the center of Balilihan and in the profile of our
respondent, we include the type of community so we classified these four Poblacion as the
urban area. While the remaining four barangays are the rural area because they are far from the
center of Balilihan. The four barangays Boyog Proper, Cantalid, Magsija, Hanopol are chosen
through a lottery method.

What is a lottery method?

In this method each member of the population is written on a separate piece of paper. These pieces of
paper are mixed and drawn out of the box in a random manner.

Why do you choose lottery method?

 We chose lottery method to give equal chance to others to be chosen.

What is a descriptive research design?

Descriptive research is used to describe the characteristics of a population or phenomenon being


studied.

What is the connection of Social Cognitive Theory to your study?

 Social Cognitive Theory, posits that people learn from one another through observation,
instruction, or modelling. In connection to the theory stated, people who smoke may find
influence on the people who surrounds them. It is a person’s nature, that what they observe
may have great impact on how one will choose to live. The social cognitive theory talks about
learning from the things one can see in every day basis and to imitate it for believing it just.

How is the Theory of Planned Behavior related to your study?

The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) states that people’s behavioural intentions and behaviours are
determined by their attitudes, social pressure and the amount of control they perceive to have over the
behaviour. In connection to this, an act of smoking are caused by social pressures and the amount of
control one perceive towards the behaviour. This theory support that smoking is a good factor to use in
facing pressure and frustrations. Thus, the act of smoking is their way to express themselves.
What is the connection of Labelling Theory to your study?

Labeling Theory examines the ascribing or deviant behaviour to another person by members of society.
Thus, what is considered deviant is determined not so much by the behaviours themselves or the people
who commit them, but by the reactions c of other to this behaviours. In connection to the said theory, it
is the society that dictates or determined what is good based on their reactions not by the behaviour of
the smokers. So this theory signifies that smoking may be considered acceptable depending on the
society or the culture where you are engaging.

Republic Act 9211 also known as the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003

It states to protect the populace from hazardous products and promote the right to health and instil
health consciousness. Section 2 of this act states that the government shall institute a balanced policy
where by the use, sale and advertisements of tobacco products shall be regulated in order to promote a
healthful environment and protect the citizens from the tobacco hazards of tobacco smoke, and at the
same time ensure that the interest of tobacco farmers, growers and stakeholders are not adversely
compromise.
In connection to the said law, it herby supports the smoking ban to promote healthier lifestyle for
every member of the community. It promotes the welfare of Filipinos against smoking and its
connected diseases.

Article 189 of Presidential Decree No. 603 otherwise known as The Child and Youth Welfare Code

A child nine years of age or under at the time of the offense shall be exempt from criminal liability and
shall be committed to the care of his or her father or mother or nearest relative or family friend in the
discretion of the court and subject to its supervision. The same shall be done for a child over nine years
and under fifteen years of age at the time of the commission of the offense, unless he acted his
discernment, in which case he shall be proceeded against in accordance with article 192.

"Point-of-sale establishments" - refers to any location at which an individual can purchase or


otherwise obtain tobacco products;
