Assignment 1
1.) What are the structure of Matter and define each one of them.

Matter has many definitions but the most common is that it is any substance
which has mass and occupies space. The unit of matter is Atom, the smallest unit of an
element. Atoms are composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons. So protons carry a
positive charge, neutrons carry no charge, and electrons carry a negative charge. Protons
and neutrons located inside the nucleus while the electrons located around the nucleus.
2.) Define the following;
Electric charge
The basic properties of elementary particles that make up all known
matter. Two kinds of electric charge are negative and positive charge. They
interact each other through the electromagnetic force.
Potential difference
Defined as the difference of electrical potential between two points. When
two positive charges/negative charges when brought close to each other, they
repel. But when a positive and a negative charge are brought close together, they
attract each other. Unit of potential difference is volt.
Electric Current
The flow of electrons in a conductor. The SI unit of electric current is the
Ampere.
Resistance
A measure of the opposition to current flow in an electrical circuit. The
higher the resistance, the lower the current flow. The lower the resistance, the
higher the current flow. The SI unit of resistance is the ohm.
Conductance
The inverse of resistance. The greater the resistance, the less the
conductance. Unit is the mho.
Ohms Law
Current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to
the voltage.
Electrical Power
Rate of energy consumption in an electrical circuit. It is measured in units of
watts.
Series Circuit
A circuit in which resistors are arranged in a chain, so the current has only
one path to take. The current is the same through each resistor. The total
resistance of the circuit is found by simply adding up the resistance values of the
individual resistors.
Parallel Circuit
There is more than one path for the current to follow. At some points in a
parallel circuit there will be junctions.
Series Parallel Circuit
The combinations of both series and parallel. You will identify which
parts of that circuit are series and which parts are parallel, and selectively apply
the rules.
Parallel Series Circuit
It is the same as series-parallel circuit. So you need to identify which parts
are parallel and series and then apply the parallel-series rules.
