HOT-WORK INCLUDES: Operations including cutting, welding, use of open torch, brazing, installation of
torch applied roof system, glass-blowing or similar operations.
A pre-hot-work check shall be conducted by the individual responsible for the hot-work permit prior to calling
the Fire Department for a site inspection. This form shall be completed by the individual responsible and shall
be available for review with the hot-work permit at the site inspection. The pre-hot-work check shall include
the following:
5. Floors are kept clean and free of combustible materials such as sawdust or oil.
8. Fire extinguishers shall be verified as operable, having the correct rating and
available.
9. Call Fire Prevention 24 hours prior to hot works operations to schedule
an appointment.
A minimum of a two A:20-B:C rated fire extinguishers or a charged water hose equipped with a nozzle shall be
located within 30 feet of the location where hot work is in progress and shall be accessible without climbing stairs or
ladders.
A fire watch shall be provided during hot work activities and shall continue for a minimum of 30 minutes after the
conclusion of the work.
