CHAPTER II - MRL Rice Mill Problem Statement
CHAPTER II - MRL Rice Mill Problem Statement
CHAPTER II
Statement of the Problem
Like every other business, MRL Rice Mill was established with the intention of making
profit in the agro-allied industry. This means that generation of income via several sources is its top
priority, and this would be done via its main service as well as other additional but related services
that it may be offering as well.
This chapter seeks to investigate into the issues of economics whereas the queries arise from:
(a) The profitability and solvency of the positions of the business increased during the first
quarter of fiscal 2019 reflecting additional sales from the sale of milled rice byproducts and
the demand for milling rice rose by 20% compared to 2018, how could it be increased at
least 50% with the use of in-good condition modern machines?
(b) How can the business minimize their cost and expenses while increasing the quality of good
and operating process?
(c) What should the business do to strengthen demand generating revenue by reducing
product losses and increasing yield?
The structure of cost of production affects profit maximization of a mill. Therefore, cost of
production is an important factor which is also an indicator of management efficiency. The
medium-sized mills which can work 15-25 tons of white rice per day might not be run by diesel
generators due to their mechanical confinements. The advanced rice plants are worked by adopting
modern innovation and the recuperation percent of head rice is more comparable with customary
rice hullers.
However, the nature of the product on the one hand and the lack of an organized market
system on the other have resulted in low producers’ prices. Also, there are challenges related with
rice production and marketing primarily on market information, knowledge of grading, price
seasonality, excessive intermediaries, lack of markets, and limited number of buyers. Hence, this
study is attempted with objectives of analyzing costs and returns structure of both hullers and
medium-sized mills, and other correlated issues.
