 Offering
Remote study is formal education-based education whose learners and instructors are in
separate locations requires an interactive telecommunication system to connect the two and
the many resources needed within. In the time of covid-19 remote study became a method of
teaching learning to enable students to complete their existing studies at school. Remote study
has some basic characteristics like teachers and learners are not in the same space as the
teaching prosess takes place, flexibility in the learning process.
Tanjungpura (UNTAN) University grandmaster Tanjungpura, Pontianak, Thamrin Usman,
welcomded the decision made with four government agencies that maintended a remote study
system during the covid-19 pandemic. The vast majority of remote study patterns are not
considered pleasing to students, teachers, and parents. The safety and health aspects are more
important than the remote study challengers.
 Method/Approach/Technique/Lens/Perspective
Research uses method for study cases of exploration and research approaches to work using
qualitative case study method used to get obstacle information and the consequences of
vocational covid-19 on the learning activities of students. Semi-structured interviews are
conducted and questions compiled for interviews developed based on the corresponding
literature. The respondents to this study were teachers and parents of students. The study was
done to see how students could understand English materials and identify some of the
obstacles students.
 Contribution
This research was done to provide an understanding of the challenge of understanding English
materials to students using method of remote study. Making remote study a chance to
transform our educations. Becomes a collective reflection in improving our education system
firs, all teachers should be able to teach remote study that have to be connected with
technology. Increased competence educators in all ranks to use the remote leraning
applications.

 Offering
zoom application is one of the applications used in distance learning during the covid-19
period, according to CNNIndonesia.com one of the applications and software that can be used
in the concept of Work From Home (WFH) is Zoom. Zoom is an application that provides
remote conferencing services by combining video conferencing, online meetings, chat, to
mobile collaboration. This application is widely used as a medium of long distance
communication. Some of the advantages of the Zoom application are: it allows to hold
meetings for up to 100 participants, Users can send texts when a meeting is in progress, Users
can schedule meetings via the Schedule feature, Users can send screenshots when meetings
take place to Google Drive, Dropbox or files Box, Zoom Cloud Meeting can work on
Android, iOS, Windows and Mac devices.
The drawback of Zoom is that online activities can only last for 40 minutes, the challenges
faced by students in understanding learning English materials when using the zoom
application are students will have difficulty understanding the conversation done by the
teacher if suddenly the network is not good and while in learning English it is important to
understand pronunciation in terms of listening and speaking.
 Method/Approach/Technique/Lens/Perspective
Research used in this research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. In the
descriptive research method, the data generated in the form of written words or writing from
the object being observed or the person being interviewed is the main data source. The
research strategy used in this research is qualitative research with a single embedded case
study approach. The respondents are students who have challenges in using the zoom
application to understand English materials.
 Contribution
This research was conducted to find out what challenges faced by students in understanding
English learning material using the media zoom application. And the extent to which the
effectiveness of using the zoom application as a medium for learning English language
material. How students can be competitive in online learning and collectivity between
teachers and students in the process of learning English material using the zoom application
media.
