MUSIC 6. F-clef
• Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a
way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression
of emotion.
• The art or science of composing or performing music.
• A sound perceived as pleasingly harmonious.
• The written or printed signs representing vocal or
instrumental sound.
7. Note – a symbol expressing relative duration of time. Its
Fundamentals of Music determined by the shape or form of the note.
1. Staff – it consists of 5 lines and 4 spaces

2. Measure – a space between two bar lines. It is also the


identical groupings of underlying beats. This group of notes is
between two bar lines.

8. Time Signature – an indication of rhythm following a clef


which is used to specify how many beats are in each bar and
which note value constitutes one beat. It is generally expressed
as a fraction with the denominator defining the beat as a
division of a whole note and the numerator giving the number
of beats in each bar.

3. Bar Line – a vertical line that divides the staff into


measures.

9. Note Pattern – refers to a note or set of notes with or


without rest used for a certain dance step.
4. Double Bar Line – signifies an end of a musical section or
piece of music.

10. Rhythmic Pattern – is a definite grouping of sounds or


beats related to the underlying beat. It is also called melody
pattern because the rhythmic pattern follows the words or
melody.

11. Phrasing - is a group of measures that gives a feeling of


unity. Learning to identify or recognize phrases is essential to
learning and creating dances.

12. Accent - is the force or emphasis given to any one beat in


a series of pulse beats in a measure.
