Praxis Analysis

Passing the Praxis Core Exam is vital in order to be able to be accepted into the

bachelor’s program for Education because it measures the academic skills of those who want to

pursue a career in teaching. The exams provides the Department of Education with your scores

to show them that you know the basics of Reading, Writing, and Math, it does not matter what

you are planning to teach or what grade level, it just provides them with the proper knowledge of

your background to help them decide whether or not they let you into the program. The passing

score for the Praxis Core Reading test is 156, the passing score for the Praxis Core Writing test is

162, and the passing score for the Praxis Core Math test is 150 in the state of Nevada.

One of the ways that I had prepared myself to take the Praxis practice test was by printing

out all the study material for each subject that was provided on the website. Once I printed those

out, I had taken 2 hours each day to study each subject before taking the practice tests and I

answered the practice questions that were in the study guides. After answering the questions, I

went back and checked my answers and was able to understand why I got questions wrong with

the explanations they provided on why the answer was right. In order to prepare for the actual

test, I ordered a Praxis Core Study book from Amazon to study with before I take the test by

focusing on the areas where I struggled the most.

On the Reading test, I scored in the 34% range, which through me for a curveball because

that is one of my strong subjects, but I know now that I need to brush up on it a lot more than

the other two subjects before taking the real test. In Writing, I scored in the 63% range, which I

also need improvement in before taking the official test. In Math, I scored in the 65% range,

which surprised me because I struggle with Math the most, I will need to improve in that subject

as well before taking the test. Overall, I know that all the subjects I need to buckle down even

harder and study them in order to reach the passing scores for each test.

I decided to buy a book to help me study the material on the tests which also included an

online portion to the book in order to help me pass the tests. My mother offered to be my tutor

and study buddy to help me brush up on the areas I am struggling with. I am hoping that this

book will help me improve my scores, so I only have to take the test once, but I am prepared to

have to take it again if I do not pass one or more of the subjects. I will not let the practice test

scores I received ruin my motivation for passing the test, I am determined and know I will pass

them.
