About SVS School of Architecture (SVS SOA)

SVS School of Architecture is a part of the SVS Educational Institutions located in Coimbatore,
Tamilnadu. The School is approved by the Council of Architecture and is affiliated to Anna University.
Since its inception in 2010, SVS School of Architecture (SVS SOA) has proven itself time and time
again to be one of the best schools of architecture in Tamilnadu. The School offers Bachelor of
Architecture (B. Arch) and Master of Architecture (M.Arch) courses. Within a short span of its
existence, SVS SOA has carved a niche for itself in architectural education in India. The journey
started with a very humble beginning and has reached a point where the name itself has become a
brand. The school offers an interactive environment for the students who in turn are honed by a
team of architects, academicians, professionals, consultants and fraternity from the practicing and
corporate sectors. SVS SOA is well equipped with design studios, lecture halls with multimedia
facilities, dedicated CAD lab, a well stacked library with access to e-journals, construction yard and
an art studio and many more other labs and facilities. SVS SOA strives for excellence in architectural
training and practice, nationally and internationally, through effective industry-institute
collaboration and by engaging in research and scholarly activities.

 To redefine the Teaching Learning Process for an effective and efficient knowledge transfer
that develops creative thinking.
 To develop and retain a rapport with the AEC industry for better and stronger partnerships.
 To inculcate entrepreneurial and technical skills for the betterment of graduates and the
society.

Infrastructure

SVS School of Architecture boasts an expansive infrastructure that will offer a mind blowing
experience to the students during their course of study. The campus has a very vibrant courtyard
that is surrounded by design studios, lecture halls, and the construction yard. Other amenities
include:

- Fully equipped computer labs for 120 students with latest AEC (Architectural, Engineering
and Construction) software running on the latest Operating System
- Library with 2600 volumes and 1600 titles across various streams
- Digital library with access to OPAC and high density printed collections
- Seminar Hall for 150 people
- An exhibition hall where SVS SOA regularly conducts “Open House” to display students’
works
- An acoustically designed auditorium for 300 people
- Model making and Carpentry workshops
- Well-equipped climatology lab with comprehensive weather station, rain gauge, barometer,
anemometer, solarimeter and dry bulb thermometer for study, practice and research
- Music and Fine arts room for extracurricular activities
- Material Museum where students can find a diverse display of construction materials
- Students Activity Centre for group works like NASA competitions, symposiums etc.

Architectural Pedagogy

SVS School of Architecture adopts a “transdisciplinary approach” to architectural design studios,


where design studio, structures courses and theory are brought under one umbrella and not as
isolated disciplines. This enhances learner participation and creation of new knowledge among the
students; and generates a unity of intellectual frameworks beyond the interdisciplinary perspectives.

Faculty

SVS SOA has a vibrant team of faculty members who have diverse specializations that help us
succeed in adopting the “transdisciplinary approach” of teaching and learning. The faculty team has
specializations in urban design, conservation, landscape, structural engineering, construction and
project management. Many faculty members have industrial and corporate experience clubbed with
international travel which help them to transfer and share the globally adopted best practices in the
AEC industry to the students.

ADMISSIONS TO B Arch AT SVS SOA

To be eligible for admission to five year Bachelor in Architecture (B Arch) course, it is a mandate to
clear NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) that is conducted by the Council of Architecture
every year. This is an online test that is conducted across the country on a pre-defined date which
consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and paper based drawing. For more information,

SVS SOA conducts NATA coaching class every year and the notification for the same shall be
published in dailies.

SVS Educational Institutions established in the year 2009 under Sri Velammal Subbiah Educational
Trust is one of the foremost institutions in India founded by Thiru. S. Chandrasekaran. The
campus consisting of SVS College of Engineering (SVSCE) and SVS School of Architecture (SVS
SOA) is located 2 km from Coimbatore – Pollachi National Highway. Both the institutes are ISO
9001:2008 certified and are affiliated to Anna University.

The campus is spread over 36 acres that consists the Institutional facilities, hostels, state-of-the-
art laboratories, seminar halls, well-stacked libraries, sports and games fields and gymnasium.
SVSCE offers six undergraduate programs and four postgraduate programs in Engineering &
Technology along with Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. The college has signed MoU with
research organizations and industries in order to promote closer interaction in the areas of
technology, development, training of students and development of state-of–the-art centers.
