Part – A (7*2=14)
1) Define kinematic fluid.
2) What is laminar and turbulent flows?
3) Define rate of flow.
4) What are the properties of potential function?
5) Define fundamental and derived quantities.
6) Write down the dimensions of Velocity, Weight and Density.
7) Define model and a prototype
Part – B (3*12=36)
8) A 30 cm dia pipe, conveying water, branches into two pipes of diameters 20 cm and 15
cm resp. If the average velocity in the 30cm pipe is 205 m/s, find the discharge in this
pipe. Also determine the velocity in 15 cm pipe if the average velocity in 20 cm diameter
pipe is 2 m/s.
9) Derive the continuity equation for three dimensional fluid element.
10) Find the expression for the power P, developed by a pump when P depends upon the head
H, the discharge Q and specific weight w of the fluid.
