EXPERIMENT NO. 2
VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION
1.0. OBJECTIVES
1.1. To determine the velocity and acceleration of a person traveling on a
track.
1.2. To describe the motion of a person traveling in terms of acceleration.
3.0. INTRODUCTION
3.1. Velocity is the rate of linear motion in a particular direction. The magnitude
of velocity, usually known as speed, can be determined using the equation
t = time
v = velocity
vf = final velocity
vi = initial velocity
t = time elapsed
5.2. Measure a 50-meter straight line distance on the ground. Place a marker
after each 10 meters.
5.3. Using a stopwatch, measure the time it takes your partner to walk the first
10 m, jog the second 10 m, run the third 10 m, jog the fourth 10 m, and
walk the last 10 m. Note: Make sure that there are only two points in the
track where the runner is at rest – at the STARTING POINT and at the
FINISH LINE.
5.4. Determine the time for each 10 meters and compute the velocity and
acceleration.
5.5. Tabulate your results in Table 5.0
Table 5.0

6.2. Can you give a practical example of how a body can still accelerate even
without changing its speed?
