Bourrelle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-Yy6poJ2zs

0:00 – 1:16 Introduction. Explains how he has changed his communicational ways by living in
Norway even though he is from the French side of Canada.

1:17- 2:03 There are 3 ways to relate to the culture when you move to another country:
confront (your behaviors are the right behaviors), complain (you isolate yourself
into social bubbles of forms living in segregation with the society) or conform
(observe, learn and understand the behaviors of others and adapt your own so
they fit with the behaviors of the society you are in).

2:04 – 3:12 Experience with a friend in Cataluña, Spain regarding emotional feedback. We
interpret emotional feedback through our own cultural glasses.

3:13- 3:45 We see the world through our own cultural glasses. These lens shapes our
reality. Changing the lens can change how we perceive behaviors and how other
people relate to cultural differences. This will benefit diversity.

3:46 – 5:36 A leadership for women course was denied for him to study. His cultural
perspective is that he was denied education because of his gender. The real
reason was that the university was helping women get in positions where less
than 20% of the positions were held by women. Equality of result enforces
diversity.

5:40 – 6:18 Gives statistics of performance in boards composed with both genders, people
with different cultures. Cultural diversity increases problem solving ability,
creativity and innovation. Challenge is improving communication between
people. This is done explaining cultural differences.

6:20 – 6:58 Talks about his project to connect people of different cultures.

7:00 – 8:54 People are raised in different ways – as part of a group or independents. This
affects their behaviors. This will explain how friendship will be. Your cultural
glasses can affect how you see friendship, love, etc.

8:55 – 11:32 Cultural misunderstandings: personal space – politeness - leads to

miscommunication. Can’t expect a person to behave as he is expected to in a
foreign culture. Need to change how we see other cultures.

11:33 – 12:07 Conclusion: Benefit from diversity. It is not what you see but what you perceive.
