Tree planting and its effect on

food security
Introduction
Do you think that tree planting contribute in enhancing food security?

 Trees are very important things keeping the ecosystem balance in the
world. In the past decades in most parts of the world the number of tree
declined dreadfully. This and some other conditions became main factors
for soil erosions. And most parts of the world become desert and barren
become of the aforementioned situation. This in turn become the factor for
less production of crops.
 To change the present condition of the world afforestation is very
important and compelling. As it has been know tree planting and soil
fertility coin sides greatly and at the same time fertile soil increase the
production of crops.
 In Ethiopia every year in June and July millions of sidling planted by
different groups of people but very few of the sidling grows properly.
Hence, I suggest that planed and organized complain should be made to
improve the coverage of trees of the country to improve the production
percentage of crops. The food security of the country without any doubt
increased it plants (trees) planted and kept properly.

.
We will discuss in detail
1) Negative impacts of deforestation
2) Benefits of tree planting
3) And how tree planting improve crop production
4) How is that useful in making a forest?
Main body

1. Negative impacts of deforestation

Deforestation: - is when forests are destroyed by cutting of trees and not

replanted. Sometimes deforestation happens when people change the land in to
farms, ranches and cities. A lot of deforestation is caused by the removal of al tees
from a forest for wood or fuel.

 The WWF states that scientist estimate that a third of the world’s arable land
has been lost to deforestation since 1960. After a clear cutting, cash crops
like coffee, soy and palm oil are planted. Planting these types trees can
cause further soil erosion because their roots cannot hold onto the soil

How does deforestation affect food security?

In the longer run, the loss of biodiversity, habitat, and natural resources will affect
food production in both developed and developing countries. But the most serious
consequence of them all may be global warming. Almost 20% of all global
carbon dioxide emissions are caused by deforestation.

2. Benefits of tree planting?

Trees create an ecosystem to provide habitat and food for birds and other animals.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide,
carbon monoxide, from the air and release oxygen. One large tree can supply a
day's supply of oxygen for four people.

 Forest products are sources of energy and people’s healthcare, and

supporting ecosystems services like soil enrichment, pollination and
protection of agriculture and fisheries from disasters like flooding.
 forest and tree products can supplement the food production
 Forests and trees can be conceptualized within food security
dimensions as their availability contributes to direct food consumption,
indirect income increase ability of individuals to purchase food
 Planting more than one type of tree was therefore best.
3. How they tree planting improve crop production

What are the factors that affect crop production?

 External factors
 Precipitation
 temperature
 atmospheric humidity
 Solar radiation (without which life will not exist)….
 Soil moisture etc ….

How can improve crop production

Erosion can be prevented by the careful selection of appropriate crops, keeping

ground cover on soil and counter plowing. Irrigation increase crops yields by
about 200% so more land must be irrigated to increase production efficiency, but
this uses great quantity of water.

How do farmers grow their crop production?

After deciding how to grow farmers often till the land by loosening the soil and
mixing in fertilizer which are nutrient rich. Then they sow seeds or plants
seedlings when the crops are growing farmers must water (or rely on rain fall)
weed and kill crop pests.

How can we increase the crop production?

1. Plant early, plant effectively

2. Practice seasonal soil rotation
3. Know the yield potential
4. Always scout your fields
5. Ensure proper water drainage
6. Utilize fertilizers
7. Test your soils
8. Weed early and often
4. How is that useful in making a forest?

 Well, their roots help to hold the soil firm and prevent soil erosion and
landslides caused by water saturation. Using a variety of trees would later
avoid barren spots when the mature trees were felled. A healthy mixture of
various species is also the best for recreational purposes

 Trees incorporated into agricultural systems can also help farmers engage in
climate-smart agriculture. Trees have been shown to protect arid areas
against land degradation, help deliver clean water to agricultural lands by
protecting catchments, and enhance soil stability and fertility. Trees can
therefore help protect agricultural productivity against the negative impacts
of climate change.
 Against a backdrop of increasing temperatures and extreme weather
conditions, the issue of food security is ever more important. Forests
provide a lifeline for rural families in the face of climate change and we are
already seeing families harvesting a diversity of foods from our trees

Conclusions
 The contributions of forests to global food supply may be negligible,
but quality of the foods is more important in the local food systems.
Forests and trees support food security and nutrition in a number of
ways.
 As we see in the previous discussion tree planting is more important
thing in the world so that all people have their own obligation to plant
trees
 So that they must protect our forest to protect food security ,planting
tree ,afforestation are important things
