Gasoline-powered two-wheelers are a major mode of transport in developing countries

like India. There are about 150 million two-wheelers on road in India and
constitute about 80% of all modes of transport. In 2018 alone, record 20 million
two-wheelers were sold in the country (55,000 per day!!). Though individually
motorcycles have less emissions as compared to cars or buses but have large
contribution overall owing to the high number of users. 21 of the worlds 30 cities
with worst air pollution are in India as per IQAir AirVisual's 2019 World Air
Quality Report, with six in the top ten. Air pollution kills about 1.25 million
people in India every year. Vehicular emissions have a fair contribution to this
crisis. As the air quality is deteriorating day-by-day, citizens are becoming more
aware and want to adopt cleaner modes of transport. Electric-powered motorcycles
and mopeds (EVs) are a promising solution with the added advantage of low cost of
ownership.
