Freeform Poetry II

Elizabeth Perkins
For Professor Michaels

The weather’s perfect and relaxing today

Wearing my favorite dress
Leaving the house with pep in my step
I hum a little song

Keeping your eyes locked on me

Not sure when I specifically caught your heart
My voice trembles and plays the drums on your heart
The bells in my necklace twinkle as I walk

I’m looking for a very specific flavor

It’s sweet and melts in your mouth
Kind of like cake
Sort of like ice cream
It’s so delicious it’ll leave your fingers sticky

Not sure I can find it in any store

The taste that’s perfect for a day like this
You walk by my side in silence
But my taste buds are begging for that sweetness

Is it honey, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry?

I’ll give you a different flavor for each day of the week
It’ll keep you entertained for a while
More flavors than colors in a rainbow
It doesn’t compare for love but maybe it’ll do
Searching turns into an impossible mission
Drive me back on your bike
The summer wind as we go washing my sweat away
As I cling to your back I can hear it
Your heart thumping

If I were to describe the taste I’m chasing down

It pops and rests comfortably in your mouth
Rather than it melting it feels like you’ll turn into a puddle
It’s a sensation only known to me
And I’ll keep it a secret so you don’t go searching on your own

I don’t care for brand bags

Or the clothes you wear
Or you standing out
All I want is that candy

It’s so boring I feel like I’ll pass out

There’s good energy in the air but I’m just not feeling it
Come and chase me
If I’ll get something out of today at least it’ll be excitement
With your lips on mine
And my lips on yours
Maybe that’s enough sweetness for a day
