ASSIGNMENT NO. 4
Answer: Taping Party consists of the Head tapeman, the flagman, recorder, and the
rear tapemen, wherein;
Head Tapeman- is the person responsible for the accuracy and speed of all
linear measurements with the tape.
Flagman- the person responsible in holding the range pole at selected points. He
also helps the tapemen in making measurements and assists in clearing out
obstructions along the line to be measured.
Recorder- Keeps a record of all measurements, sketches, and observations
taken during the process of measurement.
Rear Tapemen- The person whose duty is to assist the head tapeman during a
taping operation. He is the one who holds the 30-m end or any intermediate
meter mark of the tape during a measurement.
Answer: Range pole, Tape Clamping Handles, Chaining Pins, Tension Handle, Tape
Thermometer, Plumb Bob, Wooden Stake or Hub, Leather Thongs, Hand Level and
Clinometer, Tape Repair Kit, and Crayons.
Answer: Steel tape is made of ribbon of steel, there are 10, 20, 30, 50, and 100 meters
available and is designed for most conventional measurements in surveying and
engineering works. While the Metallic Tape is made of water-proof fabric, it is usually
30 to 50 meters long that is why it used in measuring short distances in locating details
for maps and for other measurements requiring flexible and light tape. It is unsuitable for
precise measurements and should not be used around electrical installations. Non-
Metallic Tape is woven from selected synthetic materials with strong dimensional
stability, the tape is in turn coated with a plastic material. Compared to the metallic tape,
this is more suitable when working around electrical installations. Invar Tape is a way
expensive than the steel tape, it is also not as flexible and light as the metallic tape
because it is made with alloy of nickel and steel. It is the type of tape that gets broken
easily, while the Lovar Tape is a newer type of measuring tape and is more expensive
than the steel tape but not as expensive as the invar tape. Fiberglass Tape is made
with weaving fiberglass, it a strong and flexible tape that does not shrink easily despite
of the changes in humidity, it is also best suited for use in the vicinity of electrical
equipment. Wires were utilized in measuring lengths and is practical to use in special
cases as in hydrographic surveys. Builder’s Tape has smaller cross sections and is
lighter in weight than the steel tape and is commonly used dimensions in building
construction. Phosphor-Bronze Tape is a rust-proof tape designed for use in the
vicinity of salt water, and the Nylon-coated Steel Tape is resistant to corrosion and is
immune to rust.
