Abstract
Introduction
Electrochemistry is the study of how chemical reactions cause electrons to move. In layman’s
term, this movement of the electrons is called as electricity. The process through which the
electrons moves is termed as oxidation-reduction reaction, also known as redox reaction. For this
to happen, a salt bridge is needed in order to maintain charge balance from one half-cell to
another. As such, in this activity, we conducted, physically, a simple test of electrochemistry
using five metals namely aluminum, zinc, magnesium, iron and copper and a salt bridge.
Specifically, using a voltmeter, we tested whether each pair of the metals, when connected by a
salt bridge, will produce an electricity.

Procedure
1. One of our group members get the materials to the instructor we needed for our group
activity.
2. We listed down all the possible pairings of each elements in which we listed the 10 pairs
namely Fe&Cu, Fe&Mg, Fe&Zn, Fe&Al, Al&Zn, Cu&Zn, Mg&Zn,Al&Cu,
Al&Mg,Mg&Cu.
3. We put salt bridge in each pairings and then we attached metals was then submerged on
the liquid metals. The other end of the alligator clip was then connected to the voltmeter.
4. The readings of the voltmeter was then recorded.

Generalization
From the experiment, we are able to explain the concept of electrons flow, anions and cations. Besides
that, we are also able to determine the relative potential of reduction for the redox reactions which in this
experiment is between Zn and Copper which is 0.25V. The group also described the concentration which
will certainly affect the cell potential.
