Group Activity

D. ACTIVITY 1. The students must group 3 groups

2. All groups will be given 10 minutes to convene.
3. Let them post their work on the board and explain

Guide questions:
1. What are the 3 common types of graphs
2. Can you identify what type of graph did you use in your
presenting of data?
E. ANALYSIS
3. How do you construct the graph? What are the steps to

3 Common Types of Graphs:

1. Bar Graph known as bar chart ia a graph that was
rectangular bars to represent different values to show
comparison among categories.
2. Line Graph or chart – is a visual representation of the
relationship between variables & how the relationship
changes

2
3. Pie Chart – shows data as a percentage of the whole.

Given the data construct an appropriate graph:

Activity

Group 1:

From the given the data, construct a graph:

Table 1: Mobile phones sold by a shop in a certain week are as follows:

3
Days No. of Mobile Phones Sold
Monday 20
Tuesday 16
Wednesday 12
Thursday 24
Friday 4
Saturday 10
Sunday 30
Steps:
1. Construct a line graph
2. First make a coordinate plane, indicating the x-axis (horizontal line) & y-axis (vertical line).
3. Indicate the x-axis to be the classification and the y-axis the quantity.
4. Identify the range of data you have to indicate for each variable.
5. Determine your order pair then plot in the coordinate plane.
6. Connect the left-most dot & the dot to its right with a straight line.
7. Write the graph’s title at the top of the page.

Question: What type of graph have you constructed?

Group 2:

Pet Popularity

Type of Pet No. of Pets

Paraket 9
Dog 22
Cat 53
Hamster 7

Steps in the Process:

1. Decide on a title for your graph

2. Draw the vertical and horizontal axes.
3. Label the horizontal axes (Type of Pet).
4. Write the names of pets where the bars will be (Parakeet, Dog, and so on).
5. Label the vertical axes (Number of Pets).
6. Decide on the scale. Explain that you should consider the least and the greatest number shown
on the graph. Discuss what range of numbers should be shown on this bar graph (Begin at 0 and
count by 5s to 25).
7. Draw a bar to show the total for each item.

Question: What type of graph have you constructed?

4
Group 3:

Given the data construct a pie chart:

The table shows the numbers of hours spent by a child on different events on a working
day.
Represent the adjoining information on a pie chart

Activity No. of Hours (%)

School 25
Sleep 33.33
Playing 8.33
Study 16.67
T.V. 4.17
Others 12.5

Steps of construction of pie chart for a given data:

1. Find the central angle for each component by multiplying the percentage by 3.6 degrees.
2. Draw a circle of any radius.
3. Draw a horizontal radius
4. Starting with the horizontal radius, draw radii, making central angles corresponding to
the values of respective components.
5. Repeat the process for all the components of the given data.
6. These radii divide the whole circle into various sectors.
7. Decide the title of your graph.
