(A) USING DICKEN'S FORMULA :

(Referring Clause 4.1, IRC : SP 13 - 2004)
Where Q
Where, = Peak runoff in cumec
M = Catchment area in sq. km. = 19.81
C = 11 - 14 where the annual rainfall is 60 to 120 cm.
= 14 - 19 where the annual rainfall is more than 120 cm.
The average rainfall of last 10 years in Nabarangpur district is 1400 mm
So, on an average considering C = 15

Q= CM3/4 = 15 x 9.390 = 140.85 Cumec

(B) USING RATIONAL FORMULA FOR PEAK RUNOFF FROM CATCHMENT:

Where, Q = Discharge in cumec
P = Co - efficient of surface run-off for the catchment characteristics from Table 4.1
= Factor obtained from Fig. 4.2, IRC: SP: 13-2004
A = Catchment area in hectares

L = 11.799 km
H = 30.000 m
tc = 4.600 hr
Io = 56 mm

Q = 0.028 P ƒ A Io (2/tc + 1) = 65.227 Cumec

(C) USING MANNING'S FORMULA

DESIGN FORMATION LEVEL

As p
per clause 106.8.2,, IRC : 5 - 2015,,
The minimum vertical clearance = 0.9 m
Height of bearing above the design highest flood level = 0.2 m
Pedestal height = 0.3 m
Bottom of Superstructure = 636.281 m
Depth of Superstructure = 2.000 m
Depth of wearing coat = 0.065 m
Hence,, the depth

p includingg the wearingg coat = 2.065 m
Providing 20 m psc girder bridge without footpath = 2.065
Bridge Formation Level (FRL) = 638.346 m

Design Discharge (Q) = 140.85 cumec

Regime depth (D) = 0.473 x Q / Ksf = 1.925 m
DETERMINATION OF AFFLUX

If the waterwayy is restricted as per

p Clause 106.5.2 of IRC:5-2015,, it will cause afflux at the bridge
g site and the
designed HFL will raised accordingly.Afflux shall be calculated by using any suitable method based on
conservation of energy or momentum. In absence of any rigorous method, afflux may be calculated using
Molesworth formula as below:
H = ((V2/17.88)+ 0.015) x ((A/a)2-1))
where, H = afflux in m
V = average velocity of the water in the river prior to construction (m/sec)
A = unobstructed sectional area of the river at the proposed site (sq. m)

a = constricted area of the river at the proposed site (sq. m)

H = 0.095 m
V = 1.81 m/sec
A = 56.99 sq. m
a = 46.86 sq. m
HFL after
ft afflux
ffl = 634 976
