 How do you manage your class during discussion?
During discussions, managing a class is the most difficult job for a teacher especially when teaching topics that
are too long and boring that is why teachers are encourage to create a more effective and creative way to deliver
the discussion to the class without making them lazy to listen or making other unnecessary noises. For me, I will
manage my class during discussion by setting up ground rules first so that the students know already the things they
will do and don’t do during lesson time. I will set up a time where they can talk and intervene by asking some
questions if they understand the topic or they have questions about it and if they don’t have, it is time for me to ask
them some questions so that I would know if they really listen. Also, maintaining eye contacts to my pupils is one of
my way to make them feel that I am looking at them and observing if they do really listen to me. Also, calling names
and asking questions for those who are seen to be not listening is one effective way for the students to be attentive
at the discussions. Another way to effectively manage a class during discussion for me is to let the students
participate in the discussion and allow the students to be challenged in a way that they will going to be attentive to
whatever you say.

 Why is classroom management important in teaching?

Classroom management is important in teaching to meet the goals and expectations of the teacher. In teaching,
the main goal is to transfer learnings to the students. Having a poor classroom management may lead to poor
quality of education and may result to no learning at all. A teacher must create an environment that is conducive to
learning by effectively manage the whole class. A disorganized classroom without proper routines and such makes it
difficult to the teacher to do her job properly. The benefits of the effectively managing the classroom are effective
teaching, efficient use of time, consistency, and fewer behaviour problems. Effective classroom management can
lead to effective teaching since the teacher can do her job properly and the students has the knowledge on what are
the things they will do like routines, rules and what are the consequences of their actions. It can also lead to the use
of time efficiently since if the students know already what they are going to do before they enter the classroom and
during the class period it can literally save up time since the teacher doesn’t have to remind the class on what are
they going to do every activity they will do. Consistency of the actions/routines of the students even if you are not
around or they are being transferred to another classroom or laboratory rooms is one of the effective classroom
management benefits. The last one is fewer behaviour problems and it is the main goal of the classroom
management since the students doesn’t have time to misbehave for he/she already know what they need to do and
they already know what will be the consequences of their actions once they misbehave.
