BACKGROUND
PARTNERS OF REQUESTER
The National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX),
Ministry of Education, Council
established in 1994, has four core mandates: (i) to formulate and administer
schemes of exams; (ii) to evaluate training programmes; (iii) to assess and (iv) for Technical and Vocational
to certify final diplomas for non-university tertiary institutions, professional Education and Training,
bodies and other private institutions. National Accreditation Board,

NABPTEX mission is to establish quality standards and facilitate the acquisition
of competencies required in the world of work, through the development of Education
industry-relevant curricula and administration of schemes of examinations.
IMPLEMENTING AGENCY
Currently, the Board regulates 8 technical universities, 2 polytechnics, 45
private tertiary institutions and over 157 technical institutes throughout
GIZ
Ghana.

ACTIVITIES
• Delivery of skills forecasts workshop (1 day), including suitable forecasting methods and the presentation
of international good practice.
• CBET capacity building workshop (3 days) on how to update and develop curricula consisting of occupational
standard, unit specifications, assessment instruments and learning materials.
• Workshop on curriculum development (6 days) to clarify and establish unit specifications and assessment
tools according to the occupational standards of Mechanical Engineering.

LESSONS LEARNED
• A planned curriculum revision can change to a new curriculum development in response to the demand of
the private sector during the revision process
• The new CBET curriculum “Mechanical Engineering-Plant installation and maintenance” could serve as a blue
print to gain an official approval to be applied on a broader scale.
• The implementation of the new developed CBET curriculum requires a joint effort from all TVET actors at all
levels (macro, meso and micro).
