SNAILS – PLAY PLAN

Date: 19/10/18 Setting: Art Corner

Planned experience:

The children will decorate snail shells, using textas of different thickness, sequins, soft spots and
coloured googly eyes; utilising fine motor skills to manipulate the different materials.

The teacher will display the ‘snail’, ‘shell’ and ‘insect’ posters that the children will be able to decorate
and write.

The children will experiment with different adhesive materials – glue sticks and masking tape- utilising
both to create their snail and place it on the vine.

Outcome 2.4

Outcome 4.1

Resources and preparation required:

Cut out swirl snail shells Sequins Textas Glue sticks

Coloured googly eyes Masking Tape Soft spots

Evaluation:

The children were actively involved in the activity, further building on their fine motor skills as they
decorated their snail shells. The children were able to effectively label the shell of the snail and they
attempted to write the three ‘focus’ poster words. Each child had a different method to copy the
words – one child wrote the word next to the poster word while another child traced over the letters.
At first the children just coloured their snail shells, however, after observing the snails in the
classroom, they began to draw patterns. During the activity I observed that the children placed glue
on the entire snail body, when they only needed to glue a small area; this affected the decoration that
the children wanted to add to the snail body. In future planning and implementation of plans I would
ensure to create borders on materials or further clear explanations beforehand to provide the
children with a better guide.
