Description

Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) strives to be an innovative institution responsive to the
needs of the society for innovations, knowledge and technology by supporting fruitful interaction
between firms, academia and the public sector. We are delighted to announce that HLAF is offering
scholarships to those pursuing PhD studies and postdoctoral research.

Application Deadline

15th April until 15th June each year

Application Medium

1) Individual application through HLAF’s website.

Fill up the application form and submit together with the required documents as stated in
the form to scholarship@hlaf.org.my

2) Application through institutions within HLAF networks

Institutions within HLAF networks may recommend PhD students/Postdoctoral researchers for HLAF
Scholarship. The Institution shall establish a committee comprising suitably qualified members to
recommend potential recipients of the HLAF Scholarships for final approval by the Foundation. The
institution has to submit the following details to scholarship@hlaf.org.my before 15 April each year:

(i) Curriculum Vitae (CV) with Publication List

(ii) Recent Passport Photo
(iii) Identification document/passport
(iv) Research Summary (1 page)
(v) Research Proposal
(vi) University Offer/Admission Letter
(vii) Academic Transcript
(viii) English Proficiency Test Result
(ix) Any other supporting documents (optional)

Preferred Discipline for Scholarship

Any field of study related to science, engineering, innovation and technology

Eligibility Requirements

• Nationality : Unrestricted
• Gender : Unrestricted
• Maximum age : 30 years for PhD students
35 years for Postdoctoral researchers
• Have received acceptance (offer) letter to pursue PhD/Postdoctoral at recognized universities.
• In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of
medical examination is to be borne by the applicants
Minimum Academic Achievement

• Strong academic record and excellent academic references.

• Obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.5 at Bachelor Degree and a minimum CGPA of 3.8 or very good result
at Master’s Degree level (for research mode) in a similar field of intended PhD study,
• Postdoctoral candidate must have strong academic record at PhD study and the research topic to be
carried out will have an added advantage.
• Minimum Score for English Language : TOEFL = min of 550; or IELTS = min of Band 6; or MUET = min
of Band 4; or
• Excellent result in other relevant English test that is accepted by the university

Selection Criteria

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

PhD
• Academic achievement at previous study;
• Publication record;
• The quality of the research proposal;
• Recommendation letters;
• Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English Language.

Postdoctorate
• Academic achievement at PhD study;
• Publication record;
• Research proposal and its perspective application;
• Recommendation letters;
• Organization in which he/she will have its postdoctoral research;
• Excellent communication, writing and reading skills in English Language

Duration and Amount of Scholarship

The scholarship value will depend on the type of study, as determined by HLAF
