Life of Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬

1. The Prophets and prophethood

 Prophethood
What is Prophethood? When Allah S.W.T sent Adam and Hawa on
Allah S.W.T has created everything for a purpose. Each of earth, then He made it very clear that He will
His creation including human beings have a purpose. definitely send guidance to the mankind..
Each one has its role and is fulfilling it.
Such as honey bees, silk worms, sun, moon etc ‫ط ۡوا ِم ۡن َها َج ِم ۡيعًا ۚ فَاِما يَ ۡاتِيَنكُمۡ ِمنِ ۡى ُهدًى فَ َم ۡن‬ ۡ ‫قُ ۡلنَا‬
ُ ‫اه ِب‬
We can’t say this plant, or this animal or this insect is totally ‫علَ ۡي ِهمۡ َو َل ُهمۡ يَ ۡز َننُ ۡو َن‬
َ ‫ف‬ٌ ‫َاى فَ ََل َخ ۡو‬
َ ‫ت َ ِب َع ُهد‬
useless and it has nothing to do with this system of life. We said, “ You all go down from it, so when a
It is possible that we may not know its role yet, but definitely guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows
it has. My guidance - there will be no fear concerning
them, nor will they grieve. Surah Baqarah#38
ِ ‫ض َو َما بَ ۡينَ ُه َم ۤا اِل ِب ۡال َز‬
‫ـق‬ ِ ‫َو َما َخلَ ۡقنَا الس ٰم ٰو‬
َ ‫ت َو ۡالَ ۡر‬
And We have not created the heavens and the earth and How did Allah S.W.T send guidance to mankind?
whatever is between them except with the truth
[purpose]. Surah Hijr#85 Allah S.W.T chose certain individuals and
appointed them to convey His message to the
Purpose of Human beings mankind. These individuals are known as
1. To worship Allah S.W.T alone prophets such as Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim,
2. To Live a good life based on Allah’s teachings and guidelines Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be up
To fulfill our purpose of life, we need guidelines from on them). The responsibility of conveying
Allah, otherwise we can’t and it is Allah’s great mercy that the message of Allah is called prophethood/
He did not send us on the earth without guidance. ‫نَبُوة‬.
 Common Characteristics of Prophets
What are the common characteristics of Prophets?
All prophets have common characteristics which make
them exceptional human beings.
1. Prophets receive revelation:
Allah has chosen them to receive His message/revelation/‫وزى‬
among all other human beings. This quality is special to the
prophets only.
What is ‫ وزى‬:
It is the secret and fast communication through which Allah
sends His message to the prophets through the angels/dreams.
2. Prophets have noble character:
❖ Prophets never sought personal benefits such as wealth,
high status or power, rather they only sought the
happiness of Allah S.W.T.
❖ They are best examples among their people in character
and goodness.
❖ They possess excellent morals and always are truthful in
speech.
❖ They are extremely obedient servants of Allah S.W.T.
3. Prophets perform miracles:
Different prophets performed different miracles
with the permission of Allah S.W.T and these
miracles prove truthfulness of prophethood. For
example staff of Moses A.S turned into a giant
snake. Jesus A.S was able to heal the sick and
born blind and Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬was given the miracle
of splitting the moon and Quran etc.
4. Prophets have necessary extra ordinary
qualities:
Allah S.W.T gave prophets certain
characteristics in order to successfully fulfil their
mission such as persistence, courage, leadership,
patience, wisdom, bravery, firmness.
5. One and the same message of all prophets:
ُ ‫اجتَنِبُوا الطا‬
ۚ َ‫غ ۡوت‬ ۡ ‫ّٰللا َو‬ ُ ‫َولَـقَ ۡد بَعَ ۡثنَا فِ ۡى ك ُِل اُم ٍة ر‬
ۡ ‫س ۡو ًل اَ ِن‬
َ ‫اعبُدُوا ه‬
And certainly we have sent in every nation a messenger,
[saying], "Worship Allah and avoid false gods”.
Surah Nahl #36
 One And The Same Message Of All Prophets
Message of Salih A.S
Message of Nuh A.S
َ ‫ّٰللا َما لَـكُمۡ ِم ۡن ا ِٰل ٍه‬
‫غ ۡي ُره‬ ٰ ۡ‫َوا ِٰلى ثَ ُم ۡو َد اَ َخاهُم‬
ۡ ‫ص ِل ًزا ۘ قَا َل ٰيقَ ۡو ِم‬
َ ‫اعبُد ُۡوا ه‬
َ ‫ّٰللا َما لَـكُمۡ ِم ۡن ا ِٰل ٍه‬
‫غ ۡي ُره‬ ۡ ‫س ۡلنَا نُ ۡو ًزا ا ِٰلى قَ ۡو ِم ٖه فَقَا َل ٰيقَ ۡو ِم‬
َ ‫اعبُدُوا ه‬ َ ‫لَقَ ۡد اَ ۡر‬
And to the ‘Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He
Certainly we have sent Nuh to his people and he said O’ said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no god
my people worship Allah. “You have no god other than other than Him”. Surah Araf #73.
Him”. Surah Araf #59.
Message of Shuayb A.S
Message of Hud A.S َ ‫ّٰللا َما لَـكُمۡ ِم ۡن ا ِٰل ٍه‬
‫غ ۡي ُره‬ ُ ۡ‫َوا ِٰلى َم ۡديَ َن اَ َخاهُم‬
ۡ ‫ش َع ۡيبًا ؕ قَا َل ٰيقَ ۡو ِم‬
َ ‫اعبُدُوا ه‬
َ ‫ّٰللا َما لَـكُمۡ ِم ۡن ا ِٰل ٍه‬
‫غ ۡي ُره‬ ۡ ‫َوا ِٰلى عَا ٍد اَ َخاهُمۡ ُه ۡودًا ؕ قَا َل ٰيقَ ۡو ِم‬
َ ‫اعبُدُوا ه‬
And to the ‘Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuayb. He
said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no god
And to the 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O other than Him”. Surah Araf #85.
my people, worship Allah; you have no god other than Message of Yusuf A.S
Him.”. Surah Araf #65.
‫اَ َم َر اَل تَ ۡعبُد ُۡۤوا ا ِۤل اِياهُؕ ٰذ ِل َك الد ِۡي ُن ۡالقَ ِي ُم‬
Yusuf A.S conveyed to His people that “Allah has
commanded you that you do not worship except Him
alone. That (worshiping Allah alone) is the correct
religion”. Surah Yusuf #40.
 One And The Same Message Of All Prophets
Message of Prophet Ibrahim A.S ‫علَى ۡال ٰعلَ ِم ۡي َن‬
َ ۡ‫ّٰللا اَ ۡب ِغ ۡيكُمۡ ا ِٰل ًها و ُه َو فَضلَـكُم‬ َ َ‫قَا َل ا‬
ِ ‫غ ۡي َر ه‬
ُ َ‫ّٰللا َما َل يَ ۡنفَعُكُمۡ ش َۡيـًٔـا و َل ي‬
. ؕۡ‫ض ُّركُم‬ ِ ‫قَا َل اَفَتَ ۡعبُد ُۡو َن ِم ۡن د ُۡو ِن ه‬ He [moses] said..“What! Shall I seek for you a god
other than Allah even though He has made you
ِ ‫ف لـكُمۡ َو ِل َما تَ ۡعبُد ُۡو َن ِم ۡن د ُۡو ِن ه‬
‫ّٰللاؕ اَفَ ََل تَ ۡع ِقلُ ۡو َن‬ ٍ ُ‫ا‬ excel [all] worlds”. Surah Araf #140
He [Ibrahim] said, “Do you then worship instead of Allah
that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? Uff Message of Prophet Jesus A.S
to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then
ٌ ‫اعبُد ُۡوهُ ؕ ٰه َذا ِص َرا‬
‫ط ُّم ۡستَ ِق ۡي ٌم‬ ۡ َ‫ّٰللا َربِ ۡى َو َربُّكُمۡ ف‬
َ ‫َواِن ه‬
don’t you understand?”. Surah Anbya #66-67
[Jesus said], "And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your
Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path”. Surah
Message of Prophet Moses A.S Maryam #36
ِ ‫ت َو ۡالَ ۡر‬
‫ض‬ ُّ ‫ قَا َل َر‬- ‫ب ۡال ٰعلَ ِم ۡي ؕ َن‬
ِ ‫ب الس ٰم ٰو‬ ُّ ‫قَا َل فِ ۡرع َۡو ُن َو َما َر‬ Message of the final Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬
‫َو َما بَ ۡينَ ُه َم ؕا ا ِۡن ك ُۡنت ُمۡ ُّم ۡوقِنِ ۡي َن‬
‫قُ ۡل ُه َو ه‬
‫ّٰللاُ اَ َز ٌد‬
[Pharaoh] said "And who is the Lord of the worlds. Say [Muhammad] He is Allah, the one. Surah Ikhlas #1
[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and
whatever is between them, if you should be ِ ‫يُ ۡو ٰ ٰٓزى اِلَى اَن َم ۤا ا ِٰل ُهكُمۡ ا ِٰلـهٌ و‬
‫از ٌد‬
convinced”. Surah Shuara #23-24 It has been revealed to me that your God is
one God. Surah Kahf #110

Conclusion: The message of prophets was that God is one

 All Prophets Sent By Allah With Same Mission
Since all Prophets were sent by the One True God, they all conveyed the same
message and had the same mission to remind and educate their people of the
purpose of life.

Their message was to:

❖ Clarify the true concept of God and reject false beliefs
❖ Teach the true purpose of life
❖ Demonstrate how Allah should be worshipped
❖ Convey Allah's definition of good and bad conduct, and advise people
accordingly
❖ Describe the rewards for obedience (Heaven) and warn of the punishment
for disobedience (Hell)
❖ Explain commonly misunderstood issues such as the soul, angels and spirits,
the afterlife and fate

Conclusion:
The main focus of all the Prophets was to clarify the
concept of God: that He has no partners or equals, and
that all worship should be directed exclusively toward Him.
 Prophet Sent To Every Nation
Did Allah sent prophet to every nation?
Yes. As mentioned in Quran
‫س ۡو ٌل‬
ُ ‫َو ِلك ُِل اُم ٍة ر‬
And every nation has a messenger. Surah
Yunus #47
Being a Muslim do we have to believe in
all the prophets?
Yes. Definitely.
It is part of our faith/Iman to believe and
respect every Prophet sent by Allah S.W.T.
Being a Muslim do we have to believe in
all the previous divine Books?
Yes. Definitely.
It is part of our faith/Iman to believe in all of the
divine books which were revealed to the Prophets.
Remember that these books do not exist today in
their original form, except the Quran.
So yes we believe that those books were also
sent by Allah
BUT we have to follow The Quran only.
In Quran Allah said,
"It is He (Allah) Who has sent down the Book (the
Quran) to you (Muhammad) with truth, confirming
what came before it. And He sent down the Torah
and the Gospel." Surah Aal e Imran #3
 Life is a Test of Faith
Why Doesn't Everyone Receive Direct Revelation?
Allah created life and gave humans free will and intellect, as a test to see who will
willingly follow His path and who will deviate. If every person receive direct revelation,
life would not be a true test of faith. The real test of one's faith is in using one's
intellect and reason to reflect and recognise Allah's signs, rather than being spoken to
directly by God, which would not require any effort, and would render belief
meaningless.

Difficulties of prophethood are test for prophets

Although Prophets received direct revelation, this did not exempt them from life's
tests, as Prophethood brings with it many difficulties and trials.

Conclusion:
Life is a test for each and every one in some way or the other way. But Alhamdulillah its an open book test
Each and every point has been made clear to human beings by ALLAH through prophets, divine books and
His signs in His creation so we might not get failed in it .
 The Final Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
Why did Allah send many prophets over the
passage of time & Why not any more now?
1. Prophets were sent to specific groups of people,
2. The messages with which they came were lost or
corrupted.
However,
1. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was not
sent to a specific people, but to mankind as a
whole,
2. Message has been preserved both in the form of
the Quran and the Sunnah.
Since the Quran and Sunnah are preserved and easily
accessible, there is no need for another Prophet.
ُ ‫اِنا نَ ۡز ُن نَن ۡلنَا الذ ِۡك َر َواِنا لَه لَ ٰزـ ِف‬
‫ظ ۡو َن‬
Indeed it is We who sent down the reminder
[Quran] and indeed We are its guardian.
Surah Hijr #9
Who is Muhammad ‫?ﷺ‬
Allah S.W.T chose Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬as His
Messenger and He is the Final prophet of Allah
S.W.T.
Conclusion:
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is
the final Prophet for all mankind from his
time up until the end of time, including
current and future generations.
 The Final Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
Did the final Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬bring the same
message as of the previous prophets?
Yes. The message of Prophet Muhammad is in complete harmony with the teachings of the previous
Prophets, and reaffirms their message.
Who is the perfect example for us to follow?
The Final Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬is the perfect example of an honest, just, merciful, compassionate,
truthful and brave human being. He, like other Prophets before him, did not have any evil characteristics
and strove solely for the sake of Allah

‫ّٰللا َكثِ ۡي ًرا‬ ٰ ۡ ‫ّٰللا َو ۡاليَ ۡو َم‬

َ ‫ال ِخ َر َو َذك ََر ه‬ َ ‫سنَةٌ ِل َم ۡن َك‬
َ ‫ان يَ ۡر ُجوا ه‬ َ ‫ّٰللا ا ُ ۡس َوةٌ َز‬ َ ‫لَقَ ۡد ك‬
ُ ‫َان لَكُمۡ فِ ۡى َر‬
ِ ‫س ۡو ِل ه‬
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah [Prophet Muhammad] you have an excellent example to
follow for whoever hopes in (the meeting with) Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah
much."Surah Ahzab #21

Conclusion: Obedience to Prophet is obedience to Allah,

disobedience to Prophet is disobedience to Allah
