Zonal Statistics

Sometimes it is required to know:

 Average surface temperature of each landuse
category
 Average soil nitrogen content per paddy field
 Average slope per watershed or so on.

Zonal Statistics function summarizes the values of

a raster within the zones of another dataset (either
raster or vector) and reports the results to a table.

Zonal Statistics

Zone Layer
A zone is defined as all areas in
the input that have the same
value. The areas do not have to
be contiguous. Both raster and Value Layer
feature datasets can be used
for the zone input.

The zone and value inputs are

both rasters of the same Output Layer

resolution and it must have an

attribute table.

Zonal Statistics - Maximum

The highest value in each zone is assigned to all

cells in that zone.

Zonal Statistics - Minimum

The lowest value in each zone is assigned to all

cells in that zone.

6
5/28/2015

Zonal Statistics - Majority

The most frequently occurring value in each zone is assigned to

all cells in that zone.
When there is a tie for the majority value in a zone, the output
for all cell locations in the zone is assigned the lowest of the tied
values.

Zonal Statistics - Mean

The average of the values in each zone is assigned to all output

cells in that zone.

Zonal Statistics as Table

Summarizes the values of a raster within the zones of

another dataset and reports the results to a table.
