APM Program FAQ’s

What is Instacart’s APM Program?

We at Instacart are excited to launch our first rotational program for Associate Product
Managers. We will bring you on to a like-minded team of 3-5 high-potential, early-career
individuals and provide you the mentorship to develop your skills into being great PMs.

How are the rotations structured?

The rotation program will last 18-months, commencing November 2020 and go through to May
2022. Each rotation will be 6-months, for a total of 3 rotations. You will gain exposure to a variety
of teams, products, and leaders at Instacart.

For the first rotation, we will take your interests into consideration as we assign you a team.

For the following two rotations, you’ll have familiarity with Instacart and in partnership with your
Manager, you will work to identify a team that feels right.

What happens after the successful completion of rotations?

These are full-time permanent positions on our team that will continue to full-time Product
Manager roles, after the rotations are completed.

What kind of APM’s are you looking for?

To qualify for the program at a high-level, you should have a strong technical aptitude, be
able to conceptualize a solid product design, possess developed analytical skills, have self-
awareness, a sense of ownership, strong communication skills, leadership skills and empathy
for others.

How will I learn the skills necessary to be an APM at Instacart?

You will report directly into a Director of Product Management who will be your direct Manager
for the duration of your rotational program. They will be there for support, guidance, and to
ensure that you are growing in your career as a Product Manager.

Throughout each rotation, you will be partnered with a mentor. Your mentor will be a seasoned
Product Manager who is ready to dive in to helping you grow your career as a PM and build
those fundamental tools and skills as you grow your career.

You will learn by doing. You’ll work on real-life problems that Instacart is solving across our
product teams.
What areas within Instacart will the APM get to work within?
APM’s will be working across our various Product teams. You will help to come up with solutions
that each of our teams are working on solving. These teams include: Ads, Consumer, Catalog,
Fulfillment, and Enterprise organizations.

What happens upon completion of the full rotation?

After completion of all three rotations, APM’s will join a product team, permanently. This can be
one of the teams that you’ve previously rotated through, or another team that you are interested
in. All discussions will be driven by your reporting manager and the product leads.

What is the interview process?

Due to Covid-19 and out of an abundance of caution, all interviews will be completed remotely.

Our interview process will consist of an application review, phone screen conducted by a
member of our Recruiting team, followed by a series of product-focused, behavioural, and
cross-functional interviews.

Where will this program be located?

Instacart’s return to office date is scheduled for June 30, 2021. APMs will be onboarding and
working remotely until this time. Once offices reopen next July, APMs will be expected to work
in our SF office.
