He was fined and jailed for refusing to demolish it himself. And afterward, he gathered oil drums which he tied together and filled with concrete to lay a foundation from the shore into the sea. His temple would stand on no man’s land and never be torn down, he resolved. For the most part, with the aid of his bicycle alone, he salvaged rubble and stone to extend into the water. He succeeded in building his Temple In The Sea after nearly 25 years of daily toil and ridicule which did not dampen his tenacity and self-belief. Sewdass Sadhu passed on in 1970.
