EXT. AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK - DAY

FADE IN:
OUTBACK XACK an explorer in his late-twenties to early
thirties wearing a bushman’s shirt, tattered cargo shorts,
and hiking boots addresses the camera in his extremely
energetic fashion.
OUTBACK XACK
G’day mates! My name’s Outback Xack
with an "X" ’cause "X" can make the
"Z" sound too! I’m an explorer from
the Land Down Under and today I’m
going on an adventure in my home
country, Australia. Would you like
to be my sidekick?...You don’t
sound very excited. Do you want to
go exploring with me?...
Covering his ear, he cringes while being blasted backwards
by the apparent sound from the responding audience.

OUTBACK XACK
Wow, I think I heard you that time!
First we need to practice our
adventure skills. We need to
practice climbing, swimming, and
marching on our bums! Will you all
practice those things with me?...
Blasted backwards by sound, he covers his ears again.
OUTBACK XACK
Ha, ha! Wow! You sure can be loud!
First lets practice the most

Three. Ayers Rock! Spot on mates!
Ayers Rock is one of the largest
mountains in all of Australia!
He freezes.
OUTBACK XACK
(Whispering)
Shh! Does anyone hear that?
Xack looks around.
OUTBACK XACK
I think its coming from behind
Ayers Rock! I’m scared. Should I
look behind Ayers Rock?
He tiptoes up to Ayers Rock, peaks behind the rock, then
flinches back towards the camera.
OUTBACK XACK
(Whispering)
Yikes! There’s something back
there. Should I look again?... O.k!

Xack peeks behind the rock again, then pulls his head back
in laughter.
OUTBACK XACK
(Whispering)
Ha, ha! It’s just my friend
Kangaroo Lou! He’s sleeping.
He takes another peak, then draws back towards the camera in
more laughter.

OUTBACK XACK
Ha, ha! Kangaroo Lou is dreaming.
Again, he looks behind Ayers Rock, then back to the camera.
OUTBACK XACK
He’s dreaming about hopping. Ha ha!
Kangaroo Lou is funny! Wake up
Kangaroo Lou, its Outback Xack and
my explorer friends.

Xack stares behind Ayers Rock, then turns back to the

camera.

you have dreams. On the count of
three let’s wake him up. On the

up Kangaroo Lou! One! Two! Three!
Wake up Kangaroo Lou!
He looks behind Ayers Rock again.

OUTBACK XACK
He’s stirring about. Kangaroo Lou,
its Outback Xack and some explorer
friends. Well come on out. It’s
o.k. buddy, its just us.(to camera)
He’s being shy.(to Kangaroo Lou)
What’s that? Oh.(to camera) He’s
scared. On the count of three let’s
say, don’t be afraid, we’re your
friends. One. Two. Three. Don’t be
afraid, we’re you’re friends!

Kangaroo Lou pokes his head out from behind the rock and
flinches.
KANGAROO LOU
Uh? Ahh!

Lou jerks back behind the rock.

OUTBACK XACK
Don’t be scared mate! We’re your
friends. Come on out.

Bashfully, Kangaroo Lou comes out from behind Ayers Rock. He

speaks three times faster than Xack in a raspy voice.
KANGAROO LOU
I’m sorry I shouldn’t have gotten
scared. I’m not so special am I?
Lou drops his head. Xack addresses the camera.
OUTBACK XACK
Did you all hear that?...Kangaroo
Lou thinks he’s not special. Is
Kangaroo Lou special?... Yes he is!

hopping lesson with Instructor
Sloppaway!
OUTBACK XACK
Crikey! Did you all hear that?
Kangaroo Lou threw his new
boomerang far far away, and it
didn’t return to his dismay. Hmm.
Wait a minute! Sidekicks, how would
all of you like to help me, help
Kangaroo Lou find his new
boomerang?... O.k. great! Kangaroo
Lou, I have an idea that might help
you! We’d like to help you find
your new boomerang!
KANGAROO LOU
Hip hip hooray!
Kangaroo Lou jumps for joy.
KANGAROO LOU
My boomerang flew over Ayers rock,
and into the Eucalyptus tree that

Lou points to the left.

Did you all hear that mates? Which
way did the boomerang go?...Spot on

He points into the distance.

the boomerang before the sun goes

what a boomerang looks like? It

letters in the alphabet. Its a

right its the letter V. This is my
own boomerang.
He produces a WHITE BOOMERANG.
OUTBACK XACK
Do you know how a boomerang works?
Spot on mates! You throw it way out
into the sky...
He throws the boomerang, watches it soar, and catches it
upon return.

OUTBACK XACK
...and it comes right back to you.
You don’t even need a friend to
catch it and throw it back like a
ball. Which way did Kangaroo Lou’s
Boomerang go?
Xack looks at Ayers Rock.
OUTBACK XACK
That’s right explorers it went over
Ayers Rock and if we are here, and
we need to go that way, what do you
think we need to do to get

The Marching Song begins.

EXT. FOREST - DAY

He stops in front of FIVE EUCALYPTUS TREES whose branches
vary in number from one to five from left to right.

OUTBACK XACK
Alright mates these must be the
Eucalyptus trees Kangaroo Lou was
talking about. Which Eucalyptus
tree has three big brown branches
bent like a knee? Let’s count the
branches to find out.
He points and counts out loud, beginning with the tree on
the left and moving to the right.

OUTBACK XACK
One. That tree has one big branch.

two. That tree has two big
branches. One, two, three. That

He looks up.

OUTBACK XACK
Look to your right!
He looks right.
OUTBACK XACK
Don’t look at the sun silly, you’ll

the Eucalyptus tree that my friend
Paula the Koala likes to hang out
in. Lets all say Eucalyptus tree on
the count of three. One. Two.
Three. Eucalyptus tree! Maybe if we
find my friend Paula the Koala
she’ll be able to help us find the
boomerang.

INSERT SFX: Leaves rustle for two seconds.

He freezes then searches back and forth.
OUTBACK XACK
Paula the Koala is that you I hear?
INSERT SFX: Leaves rustle for three seconds.
OUTBACK XACK
Paula! Paula! Is that you?...
Paula?... It sounds like she’s in
trouble! Paula where are you!
He looks around frantically then freezes and gasps while
staring at a large fallen log whose thickness is the height
of Xack’s hip.

OUTBACK XACK
It looks like Paula is stuck under
this log!
He scurries behind the fallen log, bends over and can’t
quite get his arms around the log.
OUTBACK XACK
Remember mates always lift with
your legs not your back! Ok, I’m
going to try to lift this log off
of Paula! Stay back mates! This is
far too dangerous for young
explorers.
He tries to lift the log.

The log doesn’t budge.

OUTBACK XACK
Hold on Paula! I’m going to lift
this log!

He squats and tries to lift the log again, this time Xack
flutters his lips while exhaling, creating a farting sound.
OUTBACK XACK
Oh wow mates! This log is really
heavy! Hold on Paula!

Xack attempts another lift, producing another farting sound

from his lips.
A Koala bear emerges from the Eucalyptus tree above Xack. He
is oblivious to the koala’s presence and doesn’t budge the
log.
Snickering quietly from above, the koala watches Xack
struggle.
OUTBACK XACK
Ok, mates! One more try and I
should have it! Uhhhh!
Red in the face, he lets out a huge farting sound while
exhaling from his mouth, and falls over.

The log moves a couple inches. Xack scrambles to look for

Paula under the log. The Koala snickers and shakes his head.
OUTBACK XACK
Crikey Mates! I moved the log but
Paula wasn’t under there!
The koala snickers.
OUTBACK XACK
I don’t know if we’ll ever find
Paula or the boomerang.
He slumps, then responds to the apparent prodding of the
audience to look up.

OUTBACK XACK
Up? Up?
Xack looks straight up, avoiding seeing the Koala almost
directly above him. He rotates and is startled at the sight
of the koala, jumping and shrieking in soprano.

OUTBACK XACK
Crikey!
Covering his heart, he breathes heavily, then chuckles.

OUTBACK XACK

Paula speaks in a snobbish helium voice.

Paula crosses her arms in smug fashion.

Don’t look at the sun silly! You’ll

the boomerang flew out of Kangaroo
Lou’s hand, over the Eucalyptus
tree that Paula the Koala was in,
landed on this dune, and got buried
beneath the sand. Let’s all dig
down deep in the sand and see if we

Xack slowly approaches the hole, then one hand at a time

reaches down into the hole and cautiously begins to dig. He
jumps back, but then re-approaches, and digs in very nervous
fashion.
OUTBACK XACK
Ah!
Screaming in soprano, he jumps back, then calms himself
quickly while covering his heart.

disappointment.

He inflates the first floatie, then the second and rapidly
slaps them over his arms.

OUTBACK XACK
Let’s look way to the right!

He looks right.
OUTBACK XACK
Don’t look at the sun silly, you’ll
lose your sight! Hm. I don’t see
anything. Wait a minute! I wonder
if the purple polka dotted
boomerang left Kangaroo Lou’s hand,
flew over the Eucalyptus tree where
Paula the Koala lives, over the
beach where we met Myrtle the Sea
Turtle, landed on top on the water
and then sank down below!
Xack gasps and looks terrified. Then takes a deep breath and
puffs his chest out.

OUTBACK XACK
Sidekick! I think we’re going to
have to dive down deep! Do you
remember how to dive down deep?

He suggestively nods yes.

OUTBACK XACK
No you don’t, because I have taught
you yet silly! We’re gonna go up!

Xack claps his hands together above his head to get into
diving position.

EXT. UNDER THE OCEAN SURFACE - DAY

Xack speaks in his underwater voice, choppy and bubbly.

OUTBACK XACK
Keep on swimming mates! I see the
Great Barrier Reef approaching!

He stops swimming.
OUTBACK XACK
Alright sidekick, focus. Let’s

anyone one see anything? Remember
to speak in your underwater
voice... I don’t see anything
either. I don’t know if we’ll ever
find the boomerang. Wait a minute!
It’s the Great Barrier Reef just
below us! Let’s all say Great
Barrier Reef on the count of three!
One! Two! Three! Great Barrier
Reef! The Great Barrier Reef is the
largest living thing on the planet!
I wonder if the boomerang sank down
and settled there. Let’s swim down
to the Great Barrier Reef really
slowly and cautiously because we
don’t want to damage the reef.
An ALARM SOUNDS just as Xack begins swimming downward.

pull back in! Now we can swim! Now
we can swim!

EXT. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF - DAY

The lush Great Barrier Reef extends in front of Outback
Xack. A small cave on the reef near Xack achieves visual
prominence.

OUTBACK XACK
Lets stop here mate and have a look
around! Do you see anything that
might help us?... Spot on mate!
That’s a cave on the side of the
Great Barrier Reef. I wonder if the
boomerang sank down below and went
into this cave?... Explorer, I’m
going to go into that cave and see
if the boomerang is in there. You
stay out here and keep an eye out
for any sharks or treasure! Wish me
luck!
He disappears into the cave.
OUTBACK XACK (O.S.)
(Echoing)
Hello? Hello? Is anyone in here?
Yikes!
Xack bolts out of the cave.

OUTBACK XACK
(Whispering terrified)
There’s something purple in the
cave! But it’s right next to a
sleeping shark.

Xack slumps over over next to the cave.

The alarm SOUNDS again.

the Land Down Under. Who are you?

MARK THE SHARK (O.S.)

MARK THE SHARK (O.S.)

Oh! Well something flew into my
cave earlier today and woke me up
from my nap and I wasn’t happy
about it! Wait outside!

Xack rushes out of the cave.

OUTBACK XACK
No problem Mark! Did you hear that

Mark pokes his body halfway out of the cave behind Xack.
Mark the Shark is the length of Outback Xack’s forearm. He
holds a purple polka dotted frisbee in his mouth. Mark’s
voice goes up two octaves without the acoustic boost of the
cave.
OUTBACK XACK
-friendl-l-l-l-l-l--
MARK THE SHARK
-Get a load of this guy.

Xack jumps, then spins around to see a not so menacing Mark

nod at Xack. Xack chuckles to himself.

you ever been confused?... Yeah me
too. I think Kangaroo Lou bought
this at the toy store and raced
home so excited to play with his
new frisbee that he didn’t even
realize that it isn’t a boomerang.
Its a frisbee and you have to have
a friend to catch it and throw it
back to you. That would explain why
when Kangaroo Lou threw the
"boomerang" earlier today, it
didn’t return to his dismay. We
have to get back to Kangaroo Lou
fast to find out if we’ve found his
missing frisbee!

He looks around.
OUTBACK XACK
The tide must have carried us in,
because the beach is right here.
Climb out of the water mate!

EXT. AUSTRALIAN BEACH - DUSK

Xack drags himself up onto the beach next to Myrtle the Sea
Turtle.
