On-line Simulation Guide for Continuous Casting

1. Internet Web Site ( http://www.steeluniversity.org ) connect

☞ Click “Continuous Casting” below on the first screen.
☞ Click “Enter Simulation”.
2. Simulation procedure and contents

Step 1. Click “Next” after confirming the initial screen of Simulation.

-Purpose: This simulation uses 3 ladles within the quality required for each steel type.
It is continuous casting at the lowest possible price. The results are measured considering factors such as continuous casting

time and quality, and you can select from 4 steel grades and 2 user levels.
Step 2. After selecting the simulation method, click “Next”.

☞ Select “① Operate the simulation independently” from the two.

-No. ① is used when only continuous casting simulation is performed alone,

② is used when a successful refining process result is connected and simulated.

Step 2. Select “①Run the simulation independently” and click “Next”.

Step 3. After selecting the simulation user step, click “Next”.

☞ Select “College Student” among 2 User Levels.

-University students: At this level, there is no change in the state of the ladle and the arrival time of the subsequent ladle, and it is being cast

There is no possible operation trouble, so the simulation can be made easy.

-Specialized steel industry: At this level, changes in the state of the ladle and the arrival time of the subsequent ladle occur.

In addition, simulation must be carried out in response to operational troubles that occur during casting.
Step 4. After selecting one of the four target steel grades, click “Next”.

☞ Choose one of the 4 target steel grades.

-Generally used construction beam steel: suitable for beginners. ( 3Ladle×100 tons, cast iron size 250×250mm)
-TINb ultra-low carbon steel for vehicle body ( 3Ladle×250 tons, cast iron size 230×1,200mm)
-Line pipe steel for gas transport: To secure high strength and fracture toughness, impurities (S,P,H,O,N) and
It is a difficult steel grade that requires extremely low management of inclusions. ( 3Ladle×250 tons, cast iron size 230×1,200mm)

-Industrial steel (egAISI4140): This is a steel that requires a significant amount of Cr and Mo added and low hydrogen content management.

(3Ladle×250 tons, cast plate size 130×130mm)

Step 5. After selecting the target casting speed and secondary cooling rate, click “Next”.

-Target casting speed: The selection range varies depending on the steel type.

The faster the casting speed, the higher the productivity and lower the production cost.

However, it can adversely affect the quality, so it is necessary to select an appropriate periphery.

-Flow
speed.
rate of cooling water: It is necessary to set the cooling water quantity considering the metallurgical length of each steel type and circumferential
Step 6. After setting the vibration conditions of the mold powder and mold, click “Next”.

-Mold powder consumption 0.3kg/m or more, negative strip time 0.10s, vibration mark depth 0.60mm or less (UltraLow Carbon is 0.25mm
or less), mold acceleration 1.0m/s 2 Select stroke, frequency and mold powder so that it can be less than.

※ If these conditions are not properly set, breakout occurs at the same time as the casting speed rises.

Step 7. After determining the level of soft reduction, click “Next”.
-If there is a central segregation defect in the cast made through continuous casting, if this device is used,
Central segregation can be removed.

-In the simulation, it is only applicable to the slab steel grade, and the linepipe is 27~31m in the light pressure section and the Ultra-low
Carbon is located at 21~24m.

※For application under light pressure, the main speed and secondary cooling conditions are made so that the metallurgical length matches the light pressure section.

It needs to be set. (There are three levels of soft reduction, low, medium, and high)
Step 8. After determining the ladle temperature and time to arrive at the casting location, click “Next”.

-In order to complete casting of 3 ladles smoothly, the next ladle must be at the casting standby position before the molten steel of
the ladle being cast is completed.

※ After calculating the casting time per ladle considering the casting speed and the size of the cast iron, the arrival time must be set.

-As casting proceeds, the temperature of molten steel in the ladle drops by about 0.5℃ per minute. Therefore, it is necessary to set the temperature in
consideration of the casting time and waiting time so that the molten steel does not rise during casting.
Step 9. After checking all the selected conditions, click “Next”.

-After checking all casting conditions, proceed with the simulation.

If there is something to be corrected, select the previous step and repeat the previous step.
Step 10. Execute continuous casting simulation.

1) Select the Ladle Flow Rate and start filling the Tudish.
-Construction beam steel, industrial steel: 0~5,000, TINB/line pipe 0~10,000 adjustable
-Ladle end time can be checked according to the Ladle Flow Rate

2) Select the Tundish Flow Rate and supply the molten steel to the mold.
-When the Tundish is sufficiently filled, select the Tundish Flow Rate to supply molten steel in mold. Flow rate is set according
to casting speed

3) Set the casting speed.
-When the mold fills more than 80%, set the casting speed.
4) Adjust the molten steel flow rate between Ladle~Tundish and Tundish~Mold so that Tundish and Mold Level can be maintained uniformly.
5) When the ladle molten steel injection is completed, click Rotate to move the subsequent ladle to the casting position. ※ When the ladle is

rotated, the Tundish Level is continuously falling.

6) After connecting the second ladle, reinject the molten steel into the Tundish.
※ Set the flow rate to Max. so that the Tundish Level can rise quickly. ※ Proceed in the
same way when connecting the third ladle.
◎ Reference-Check quality and temperature

※ During simulation, press Q to check quality, press T to check temperature

For removal, keep the amount of Tundish high

7) After completion of the third ladle, the level of molten Tundish gradually decreases, and the injection of Tundish~Mold is completed at 20%.
8) When the steel content level of the mold reaches 0%, the casts in the strand are withdrawn at the final casting speed.
Step 11. Check the continuous casting simulation result.

-When three ladle castings are successfully completed, the following window will appear.

☞ In the main results, check the total length of the casting and the price per ton.
※The total length of castings saved in My Information is the value displayed on this screen × number of strands.
☞ Check the certificate and enter the name.
Step 12. Check the simulation results in my information.

-If you click “My Information” at the top of the screen, detailed items of me appear as follows.
The simulation result is saved in "My results", and you can check the simulation performance.
☞ The successful simulation is “ True ”Is displayed, and detailed results and event log can be checked by clicking Details. ※ It is necessary to check the
length of the cast iron displayed on this screen.
