Guide Me

This learning material helps you to understand the

changes in solid materials when they are pressed.

After going through this Self-Instructional Material

(SIM), you are expected to:

Describe the changes of solid materials when they are

pressed (S4MT-le-f-5)

Solid has definite shape and size. Some solid materials

can be pressed depending on the property of the material.
When pressed, these materials may change their size and
shape. Other solid materials may also change their texture
when pressed. However, no new material is formed
because only the physical appearance of the material is
changed.

Solid materials can be changed through pressing. Such

action may change the materials’ size, shape and texture.

Examples:

1
Let Me Do It
Activity 1. Press Me!
Directions: Look at the materials below. Match the materials
in Column I with the changes in Column II when
pressed. Number 1 is done for you. Write your
answer in your science activity notebook.

COLUMN I COLUMN II

C 1. Egg A.

2. Banana B.

3. Ball C.

4. Bread D.

5. Balloons E.

Let Me Show You

Solid materials have different characteristics /

properties such as size, shape, color, texture, weight, etc. It
can be changed through many ways: by cutting, tearing,
folding twisting, bending, stretching, pressing, coloring,
crumping melting, and others. Such action/s may change the
materials size, shape, texture, color, and other
characteristics/properties.
