(Reaction Paper 2)

Philippines has more than 100 to 200 native languages as well as we have our own
national language which is Filipino and English as one of the medium of instructions. Philippines
is also known as one of the multilingual nation which allows us to communication to the world.

Philippines has a rich and colorful culture starting from the fiestas, the way we live and
even the language we speak. First, Filipinos are family oriented, they tend to do everything even
sacrifices for the sake of family and putting them at the center of life. We are hospitable and
humorous that we can always find a way to laugh or smile when facing the hardest battle.
Language is also part of culture, it showcases our identity and our nationality. As a Filipino
having one language that will bind us and can actually help us interact from one another is
already a thing. As for Filipino the government establishes a commission which is Komisyon sa
Wikang Filipino that focuses on the development and usage of Filipino in terms of research,
medium of instruction and political processes. It is also a way of preserving the national
language. Before it was named KWF, it was Linangan ng mga Wika sa Pilipinas on 1987 and
Surian ng Wikang Pambansa on 1937. As Virgilio Almario became the president of the said
organization it was named KWF.

As KWF was established they provided a language policy that shows vision and mission
for the improvement and usage of our national language. According to the said policy, Filipino is
a native language in which we are using it in communication, learning, teaching and writing. It
was stated that the language it alive and continuously changing as time goes by, the reason why
there are some words which transform like salum- puwit to upuan. It was stated there that we
have to use Filipino as a subject and as a medium of instruction but different universities
disobeyed it because using Filipino in mathematics and science is not really applicable.
Unfortunately, the said policy was only effective for a short period of time in which they didn’t
integrate and affect the Philippines. Although we cannot ignore the fact that the goal of the said
policy is also good since it aims to unites the Filipinos and develop a sense of patriotism. As a
future educator, it is really important to seek a language for one country, and it is essential that
both students and learners understand each other. Communication is the key in life- long learning
in which it allows student to expand vocabulary and to use words effective in social interaction.

The reporters’ showcase knowledge about the said policy especially on its background.
Although I personally think that the effects on the said presentation are not applicable because
how can it affects the Philippines in a short period of time that it was implemented. In addition,
the conclusion is not correct since it was just a summary about what the said language policy is.
The visual aids don’t help us since because it doesn’t show information so we really have to
listen. Although I admired Clyde Justine for his preparation and for sharing the policy itself in
which I have gained knowledge.
