HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT BULLETIN

CLEAR THE WAY TO SAFETY

Whether you spend the entire work day in an office, or out in
the field, good housekeeping is an easy way to remove and
prevent specific workplace hazards.
Poor housekeeping hides hazards that can cause injuries. One of the basic rules of
fire and incident prevention is good housekeeping. Reducing office clutter also
indirectly impacts safety. When people are more organized, they work more
efficiently and feel better .
Maintaining order in the work place requires effort, but it is worthwhile.

Be Efficient
 When your work place is clear, your tools and materials will be
easy to find. An organized work environment is an effective use
of space.
 The time you save not searching for tools or materials allows you
to be more efficient.

Be Productive
 Productivity reduces mental overload and stress.
 If your workspace is neat, you can always find what you need. Don’t
let your messy workspace effect morale. Your workspace is a
reflection of you. Keep it clean so it doesn’t hide all of your hard work.

Be Safe
 Good workspace housekeeping minimizes many hazards. It decreases
tripping and slipping incident. It also keeps information confidential and
secure.
 A messy workplace can allow confidential information to be lost, stolen,
or misplaced. Keep track of where everything is by putting things in their
places.
