Overview
Chitradurga, extensively acknowledged as the place of hills with forts and villages. The
ancient city was part of the Mauryan Empire dating to 3rd century B.C. After Mauryans, the
land was under the rule of royal dynasties like the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas and Hoysalas.
The district owes its name to Chitrakaladurga’, or ‘Picturesque castle’. The district
