Getting Your Ideas Approved

Use these terms and definitions below to understand concepts taught in the course.

Term Definition

architecture The arrangement of thoughts and ideas into logical groups so the
audience is guided toward your conclusion. This is the structure of
your argument.

core idea This is the recommendation that you are making, the one single
idea you want your stakeholder to approve.

Figliuolo’s Law An individual’s annual compensation is inversely proportional to


the number of slides they can look at before they have a stroke.
Effective communication is critical to getting your ideas approved.

hypothesis A tentative explanation for an observation or phenomenon.

stakeholder A person with an interest or concern in your actions, objectives,


and/or policies.

story A longhand draft of your argument.

Structured Thought This approach helps you quickly and clearly define your core idea,
Method build support for it, and communicate it effectively.
