Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation is one that many companies are currently facing. The Air Force’s manning
level is getting close to critical especially in some key positions within the service. This
years recruiting numbers have been drastically impacted by Covid-19. The role that I
would like to speak from is from a frontline supervisors position. The plans and processes
that are talked about will come from a recruiting supervisior with a team that has many
different types of skill levels.

2) Describe how the structure of the organization influenced the situation.

The Air Force has many areas relature to its organizational structure. One area that I think
is the most prevolant is its goals. The United States Air Force has been the top air
superoity power house for many years. Some major conflicts have been won because of
the Air Force’s ability to domintate airspace and break the opponants will to fight. One of
its main goals is to continue this dominance and maintain its place as the best in the
world. Its goal trickles down into the recruiting plans and has major impacts on its future
Airmen aqusitions. This goal puts preasure on recruiting to continue to bring in the best
and brightest global pandemic or not. With recruiting numbers already low because of
many factors, the Air Force ensures that recruiting develop new ways to still connect with
new applicants.

3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

One way I would use structure for this current delemia is to change the though process on
what the goal of the Air Force really is. We currentl have a force with an end strength of
325,000+ and are only about 3,000 down from the end strength we wanted to hit. Instead
of focusing on new acusitions I would change the goal into retaining those that are

 already in during these uncertain times. If the goal becomes more focused on retension
and keeping people in that are all ready trained and doing their job, we can afford to have
lower numbers on the acquisition side of the house. Anthother Idea that I have to curb
this problem is to focus on the make up of the organizational chain of command. We are
in a time where more than ever we need to have compassion for others situations. This
means we need to have leaders that can care for there Airmen as people and not just a
military member. I feel that instituting a better baseline policy of taking care of our
people for these leaders to fall back on rather than allowing them to make things up as
they go.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Now that I have a much better idea of structure there are deffinatly things I would do
different. One area that I would change is how I create goals for my workplace. I have
seen the positivity that greating realistic goals brings and now I have a better
understanding of how to set those in place. I alsofeel that I have a better understanding of
how an organization should look. I feel that one downside of being in the military for so
long is I have a skewed idea of organizational structure. I think of this as a recall roster
where the commander is at the top and it passes down all the way to the lowest ranking
on the team. This is how the military operates and in many circomstances it is the right
way for the type of work we do. I do hover feel that from being in so long I am not as apt
to give opinions or offer sugestions because unless I am the one in chage my job is to
follow. That is why I think I would make changes to how I would do things differently.
