1. INTRODUCTION

I am a practicum students from Management and Science University (MSU),


would like to inform you that for my minor project proposed by our University, I am
assigned to set up a poem competition in the class according to the new norm SOP. For
the reason above, I would like to seek approval from the school authority to give me the
consent to set up the competition.

A poem is a piece of artwork that is applied onto an individual’s so they can


express their creativity skills and also it is as a medium of self-expression. The poem
that is suggested by MSU is to do an English based poem like creating a free verse
poem based on student’s creativity. The poem consists of 4 types of themes and
grammar notes such as conjunctions. The grammar notes and themes are to provide
benefits and to ensure that students fill in their leisure time to read and learn at the
same time while they were writing the poem.

The poem needs to be written clearly and nicely on a piece of paper with the
requirement needed so that other students can read and learn the poem. The grammar
notes are to encourage students to learn English in the appropriate and fun way. It is
also to motivate them for the betterment of their lives and study performance.

The 4 following themes below are proposed:

a) Friendship

b) Covid-19 (How’s life during lockdown)

c) This is me

d) Food (Healthy food, Favorite food)


The chosen grammar notes are as follows:
2. OBJECTIVES

The following objectives can be indirectly derived by the students as follows:

2.1 To encourage the students to learn about grammar and apply the grammar
onto their poem writing.

2.2 To instill interest in the knowledge of English and apply it onto their daily
lives.

2.3 To instill students to strive for excellence in the English subject.

2.4 To motivate the students to instill confidence in expressing themselves by


writing.

TIMELINE OF POEM WRITING PROGRESS

The poem competition is estimated to be completed within the following timeline as


follows:

Day Progress
Day 1 – Monday  On the first day I will explain to the students on the free
19th of October 2020. writing poem competition- dateline, requirement,
example etc.
 Hand out coloured paper, coloured pens and ribbon to
students for decorations.
 I will explain types of poem students that students can
create and how to decorate.
 Ask students to create a draft on an A4 paper before
writing on the coloured paper.
Day 2 – Tuesday  On the second day I will ask student’s progress on their
20th of October 2020 poem writing.
 I will check student’s grammar and writing on their
poem.
 If student’s grammar and writing are acceptable,
teacher asks students to proceed writing on the
coloured paper.
 Teacher reminds students to write clearly and nicely on
paper.
Day 3 – Wednesday  On the third day, I will continue checking students’
21st of October 2020 progress.
 .I will also help students that may have inquiries on
ways to do the poem.
Day 4 – Thursday  On the fourth day I will remind students on the last day
22nd of October 2020 for students to submit the poem.
 I will collect poem writing from students that have
already finished their poem.
Day 5 –Friday  On the last day, I will start collecting all students’ poem.
23rd of October 2020  I will give students time till the end of the school day to
submit the poem.
Day 6 & 7- Saturday  I will marks student’s poem based on the requirement
and Sunday needed- grammar notes, creativity and followed theme.
24th & 25th October  I will write student’s name on a piece of paper and place
2020 the poem according to the marks given- 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
and souvenirs.
Day 7- Monday  Gift ceremony for the students.
26th October 2020

5. CONCLUSION

As per conclusion through poem writing, I tried to express student’s ideas and
emotions, as well as their creativity in writing and also arts. This is also good for the
students as this poem competition will boost student’s confidence and also spirit of
competing in a good way.

To conclude for this minor project, I hope that my idea for the free writing poem
will be beneficial for the students in their learning. Lastly, I hope that Puan Zuraidah Bt
Abd Aziz, the school headmistress and the respective school authorities would approve
my proposal and provide me their consent to let me proceed with the free writing poem
competition project.
