Consulting Assignment -2

For Recommendations we need to take a look what other companies in the Industry are doing in the
Industry and how we could match that or adopt it for our case.

Taylor wines from Australia -

 Comprehensive Environmental Management System (EMS)

 ISO14001 certification for our Environmental Management System (EMS)
 Environmental Risk Management for analysing the effect of their initiatives on the
environment and taking measures to minimize it
 Offsetting the carbon emissions from wine yard by planting trees
 Refrigeration process is estimated to incur 60 to 65% of annual energy costs of the
winemaking process, hence the equipment used should be up to date with compliances.
 Adoption environmentally friendly light weight glass bottles to decrease the Carbon
emission associated to each bottle.
 Biodiversity Assessment to maintain the biodiversity in the operating region
 Drip irrigation and storage, onsite wastewater recycling facility
 Recycling waste material generated from various operations
 The spent solids from wine making process are combined with other production
concentrates to form a product called TPR, which is returned to the Estate in equal volume
and applied to the vineyard as a soil conditioner.
California Wines –

 Green Building
a) Architectural design – Using clean energy
b) Recycled materials – for Buildings
c) Gravity flow – for moving products to avoid energy consumption
 Winery Water – Large amount of water is consumed in wine making process so it becomes
crucial to recycle it to avoid wastage
a) Process water ponds are used where water is discharged after being used for cleaning and
sterilizing equipment and facilities
b) Reuse water discharged from the winery to create wetland areas that become habitat for
wildlife
c) Actively track usage and engage employees to conserve water and regularly test equipment
for water efficiency.
 Storage
a) Use of insulated tanks to cool or heat wine reduces the need for heating and refrigeration,
as does installing timed door openers in winery buildings to help keep cool air in and hot air
out.
b) Many wineries have implemented energy efficient lighting systems by replacing
incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs, installing automatic controls
to turn lights on or off
c) Use of solar power as an alternative energy source.
 Waste Reduction, Training and Eco Purchasing
a) recycling paper, plastic, cardboard and glass
b) Employee training is crucial to developing a comprehensive waste reduction program in any
business.
c) Wineries set sustainability criteria for suppliers, requiring packaging supplies to incorporate
recycled or post-consumer content and vendors to take back excess supplies the winery
doesn’t use.

Following Sustainability measures can be adopted to various degree according to the location and
other variables which might affect application of these practices hard. In the latter cases alternatives
can be adopted to ensure sustainability.
