Arlamol PS15E

Arlamol PS15E is an emollient that brings a velvety feel, in addition to superb moisturisation and skin elasticity, to personal
care formulations. It offers excellent solvency properties and can be used to form oleosome emulsions. Arlamol PS15E-
allows formulators to tailor skin feel across a broad range of consumer products. It is remarkably non-occlusive and
enables ease of product application. Products containing Arlamol PS15E have reduced drag, notably on wet skin.
Arlamol PS15E is manufactured via the RSPO’s Mass Balance System.

Multifunctionality Makes It Versatile

Arlamol PS15Ehas a number of properties that make it an ideal emollient for a range of applications. It offers excellent
solvency properties, particularly with difficult to formulate actives such as sunscreens, aluminium chlorohydrate salts and
skin toners. It also functions as a coupling agent, allowing, for example, the compatibility of polar and non-polar oils with
ethanol and perfumes in after shave lotions. It is chemically stable at extreme pH levels and at the same time saturated,
providing excellent shelf life stability. Arlamol PS15Eis an effective emollient for antiperspirant/deodorant (AP/DEO)
formulations. In addition to dissolving actives and preventing recrystallisation in the final formulation, Arlamol PS15E offers
lubricating properties that improve the performance of roll-on balls. Also, Arlamol PS15E-is stable at the very low pH levels
common to AP/DEO formulas. It is a good spreading emollient that not only moisturizes by itself but will also act as a carrier
for oil soluble actives, such as beta hydroxy acids. It has a natural resistance to rancidity; making it ideal in bath or massage
oils. An all-around, versatile ingredient.

The Liquid Crystal Connection

When used in combination with selected emulsifiers, Arlamol PS15E can create liquid crystal structures known as
‘oleosomes’. Oleosomes are oil-in-water emulsion structures with multiple layers of water, emollient and emulsifier
surrounding them. These systems provide improved and long lasting moisturisation, with excellent spreading on the skin,
meeting today’s sensory expectations. Because they are such powerful emulsion stabilizers, oleosomes are effective with
difficult to formulate ingredients such as salts (as in the case of antiperspirants), extreme pH (found in formulations using

alpha and beta hydroxy acids and depilatory formulations) or formulations requiring a high level of alcohol (such as
refreshing body milk or aftershaves). The extra layer of water and oil in an oleosome offers noticeable benefits in the areas
of skin feel and moisturisation. Oleosomes have a luxurious feel when introduced to the skin and excellent subsequent rub-
out characteristics. The bound water in the oleosome offers long lasting moisturisation potential as well.
Classic oleosome structures can be formed very effectively using the combination of Brij™ S2 (Steareth-2) and Brij S721
(Steareth-21) emulsifiers and Arlamol PS15E.

Suggested Oleosome Applications

 O/W creams and milks –
o Any oil phase type
o At a wide range of internal phase volume (1% – 70%)
 Sunscreen formulations
 Aftershave and foot products containing ethanol
 AP/DEO roll-ons

Certified Sustainable Palm - Mass Balance

SP-Arlamol PS15E-MBAL is Croda’s sustainable palm oil variant allowing customers to use sustainably sourced material.
The product is manufactured by the RSPO’s Mass Balance system. The Mass Balance supply chain allows certified
sustainable palm oil material and non-certified material to be mixed throughout the supply chain but administratively
monitors the mass of certified material produced and sold. The Mass Balance system is fully audited allowing buyers of the
material to view the products life span. Another advantage of this system is that it actively encourages palm growers to
produce sustainable palm and move towards a segregated supply chain system. By choosing these ingredients, you
contribute to the production of sustainable palm oil. Products manufactured with sustainable palm oil do not in any way
compromise on performance.
