AHA INFORMATION

Main alpha-hydroxy acids

Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) are naturally occurring acids, derived from the sugars in particular plants.
Some examples are Glycolic Acid (Sugar Cane), Lactic Acid (Milk), Tartaric Acid (Grapes), Citric Acid
(Citrus Fruits), Malic Acid (Apples)…
AHAs are chemicals promoted to reduce signs of photo-aging such as rough skin surface texture, fine
lines, and uneven pigmentation. They work by releasing the “intracellular glue” which holds skin cells
together, allowing the newly released cells to “slough off”. This activity stimulates or speeds up the
cellular turnover process, which naturally slows down as we age.
In addition, glycolic acid, the most popular AHA, has a low molecular weight that allows it to penetrate
deeply in the skin and stimulate collagen production.
Thanks to these effects, the skin is more flexible, smoother, and more even in tone.

AHA benefits
• Diminish the thickness of the stratum corneum by reducing corneocyte cohesion
• Decrease fine lines and wrinkles
• Improve skin elasticity and collagen support structure
• Remove dead cells from the upper skin and lessen superficial pigment changes – age and sun spots...
• Smooth and soften skin
• Unclog pores - clear acne
• Reduce pore size and normalize oil production
• Increase the skin own ability to hold moisture
• Promote rapid cellular turnover
