Single camera production is a mode of production where one camera is being used
at a time, and shots are being shot in an efficient order, this means that the camera
has to be moved and normally the lighting has to be fixed if it's inside everytime they
want to take a new shot. This is used a lot in media such as documentaries, dramas,
advertisements and comedies. It was originally developed in the 1910s with the birth
of classical hollywood cinema. Single camera production is used in a lot of one on
one conversations, for example if person A and person B were having a
conversation they would film person A saying their line, then stop and point the
camera at person B to say their lines and back and forth. Single camera production
involves a lot of editing and post production.

However with single Camera Production there are different types of advantages and
disadvantages that come with using it. Some of these advantages are that it is
cheaper to use than some other forms of production, due to the fact that you can
only use one camera, you have more control over key aspects such as lighting and
sound, making sure you have the right type for each shot, it's easier for the actors
and gives them more free time as they don't need to be on set at the same time, and
it's good if you have limited space as you’re not showing the whole set everytime you
shoot.

The disadvantages of using Single Camera Production are that it takes longer to set
up as you’re using one camera and need to move it to different parts of the set when
you want to shoot there, you get less natural reactions as the actors aren't properly
interacting with each other, there's a lot of repetition as you need to repeat the same
shot until you get it how you like, and you need to spend more time editing and
splicing the shots together.
Two Shot

The two shot is when you have two people next to each other in a shot, this is used
in media such as film or television to convey people having a conversation with each
other or being apart of a team.

Mid Shot

The mid shot is when the camera is showing the character from the waist up, this is
used in media such as film or television to convey the character doing something
and still being able to see their facial expressions and surroundings.
Long Shot

The long shot is when you can see the characters whole body, this is used in media
such as film and television to convey the character walking or running away from a
certain direction and that you can see the background to see what is chasing them or
what's happening behind them.

Low Angle shot

The low angle is when the camera angle is looking up at the character, this could be
used in media such as film or television to convey the character being more
important or stronger than everyone else.
High angle

The high angle is when the camera is pointing downward at the character, this could
be used in media such as film or television to convey the character is small and
feeble compared to what they're looking up at.

Close up

The close up and extreme close up are similar as both are when you have the
camera close to the character, however with close up you are able to see a little bit
of the background where as extreme close up you can only see the persons face,
the use of close up in media such as film or television could be used to convey
emotion but instead of using an extreme close up to do this they might have picked
close up for this as the film makers might want you to be able to see some of the
background e.g if its a fight scene and we see characters protruding from the sides
to show the characters on alone.
Extreme Close up

The extreme close up is when the camera is extremely close up to someone's face,
this could be used in media such as film or television to better convey a characters
emotion e.g if they look nervous and they have sweat dripping down their face or if
they are completely calm and not phased by what's going on in front of them.

Canted Shot

The canted shot is when the camera is slightly tilted to the left or the right, this can
be used in media such as films or television which could convey the character or
characters being under the influence, it could also convey when a character has
finished work and they're tired.
Extreme long shot

The extreme long shot is when the character is far away from the camera and you
are able to see a lot of the background, in media such as film or television this can
convey the vast area the character is in, also it can convey how alone a character is
if there's nothing around them.

Over the shoulder shot

The over the shoulder shot is when you can see both characters in shot but one of
them has their back to you and the camera is pointing over their shoulder, this is
used in media such as film or television to convey two people having a conversation
with each other.
Worms eye view

The worms eye view is when the camera is looking straight up, like its in the
perspective of a worm, this is used in film and television which could convey people
looking at something and building suspense as what it is.

Birds eye view

The birds eye view is when the camera is looking straight down, like its in the
perspective of a bird, this is used in film and television to convey people being like an
ant, it can also be used to show people walking around a house from the top down
view.

Manual Camera Setting

With the manual camera settings, it all depends on the environment. The three most
important settings of manual camera are exposure, aperture and shutter speed.
Aperture is the most important setting of manual photography, aperture setting refers
to the opening of lens diaphragm which allows the passage of light, they label these
as f-stop; the lower the f-stops, the higher the exposure and vise versa.

The shutter speed is the speed of the lens opening and closing, this is what lets light
through the lens. Shutter speed is normally measured in 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250 etc.

ISO is the last key setting in manual camera settings, ISO is simply the camera
setting that darkens and brightens the photo, as you increase the ISO number will
get brighter, ISO is very good at getting pictures in a dark environment, however if
you take a photo with too high of a ISO the photo will look more and more grainy.
Baby Driver

The establishing shot is a low angle shot of the bank with the cars wheel turning it
into a close up, the next shot is a close up that jump cuts to all the characters in time
with the music; this connotes the type of team they are and how they are all different
yet all work together quite well. After that is a pan shot of the three other characters
getting bags from the boot and walking to the bank, these three characters are all
wearing matching clothing which is all dark in colour with their faces covered; this
could connote that they are trying to look similar and keep their identity hidden. Also
baby is wearing brighter coloured clothing compared to his colleagues which could
also connote baby isn’t the same and might not get along with them. It then cuts
back to an arc shot of baby singing in the car, it keeps doing jump cuts to different
shots such as a tracking shot going towards him when he turns on the windshield
wipers that move in time with the song. It then jumps from baby singing to a pan shot
of a police car driving past with baby’s face completely still and serious with the
music having stopped, this connotes that baby wants to do nothing to make him
stand out in front of everyone, this is also shown when baby is in the car with the rest

of his colleagues and he doesn't sing which signifies its not only the police he doesn’t
want to look out of place to. It then zooms into the bank window to show us how the
people robbing it, have weapons and are taking this very seriously, it keeps cutting
back to baby staring into the window looking more and more concerned when his
colleagues are shooting their guns and throwing people about until they go into the
back he goes back to normal; this can connote that baby has a conscious in a job he
shouldn't. The camera then cuts to baby in time with a song he is listening to with the
burglar alarm going off in time with the music, when it cuts to the burglar alarm the
camera does a quick zoom then quickly cuts to the people robbing the bank which
signifies they need to go quickly. After that it cuts back to baby who's getting
prepared to drive with quick jump cuts to close ups of him getting the car ready. It
then cuts to a mid close up of baby and one of his colleagues from the side, and then
his colleague pointing forward but as he does this baby starts to drive backwards
which can connote the unpredictability on baby and how he drives.

Then it turns into a crab shot of the car getting driven backwards then doing a quick
turn to make it point forward and then it drives past the camera making it turn into a
pan shot of it driving away. It then cuts to a low angle shot of baby with a serious
look on his face. The camera then keeps on cutting back and forth of baby and him
driving the car with a serious look even when a police car starts chasing them, it then
cut to a quick zoom onto the traffic lights turning yellow then cuts back to a close up
of baby’s face with his facial expression not changing; even when it cuts back to the
lights turning red his facial expression doesn't change which connotes he knows
what he’s doing. Then it does a quick montage of baby using different things in the
car to emphasise how well and quickly he can use the car; this then cuts to a lot of
mid shots and long shots of him dodging the car that the police car hits into, which
subsequently causing a massive car crash that baby was able to avoid. It then goes
into a crab shot of baby drifting into a new road with another police car waiting for
him. Which cuts to a quick track shot of baby driving away, then cuts to a slow side
angled crab shot of baby getting chased by the police car to emphasise how quickly
they are actually driving; which then cuts to a close up and mid close up to his
colleagues looking worried, with baby still looking serious which connotes baby
knows what he's doing. It then cuts to a slow zoom onto the speedometer to
emphasise the speed he’s going down a normal road. It then cuts to the car getting a
little bit of distance from the police car, which cuts to baby turning the car which
makes everyone in the car falling to the side, which emphasises the power of the
turn he did. Then cuts to a close up of the car tire swiftly turning and then a wide
angle shot of the car drifting around a corner with smoke coming off the tires, which
then cuts to a tracking shot of baby driving down this road with speed, which then
cuts to an extreme close up of the rear mirror showing us the police cars falling back
a bit, to a tracking shot of the car doing a tight turn in front of a caravan partially
blocking the view into the alley which makes the police car overshoot the turn; this
connotes that baby makes small calculated moves. A truck then starts to pull out in
front of them, it then cuts to a quick montage of baby changing things in the car so
he can quickly drift past and avoid the truck, it then cuts to his colleagues looking
back stunned at what baby has done, this emphasises that none of his colleagues
really know how good he is at driving. It then cuts to baby driving up onto the main
road; then it cuts to a tracking pan shot of the car drifting up the bridge.
It then cuts to baby seeing police lights over the bridge next to him and then an over
the shoulder shot of the police throwing a spike strip to stop their car, then cuts to a
slow pan shot of baby doing a 180 and hitting the spikestrip in front of a police car,
showing off the skill baby possesses, it then cuts to the car speeding away with a cut
to the people in the back of the car looking confused and stunned. It then cuts to a
close up of baby’s face with a serious look while he speeds away. After that it cuts to
a tracking shot of their car getting chased by five police cars, which then cuts to
people in the car looking back worried, then it cuts to a zoom shot on the rear mirror
showing all the police cars which could connote the unlikeliness of them getting
away. It then cuts to a shot of baby drifting around a corner then speeding down a
road where you can see the police cars are starting to lose him. Then it cuts to a
longshot of him driving up a slanted wall and speeding up a road with a tracking shot
following, it then cuts to a mid close up of baby visibly looking for a way to get out of
the view of the police, then it pans to two red cars driving parallel, and keeps
panning to a mid shot of baby doing a hard turn into the opposite lanes, then cuts to
a tracking shot of the red car drifting into the lane and driving towards the other cars,
then cuts to a quick carb shot of the car swerving through traffic, and quickly cuts to
an over the shoulder shot of the car getting in line with the other cars, it then pans to
baby’s face looking tense. It then pans to a birds eye view of the three cars all in line
with a helicopter flying above them. It then cuts to an arc shot going around baby’s
car while he tries switching spots under the bridge, it then cuts to a number of crab
shots switching from the front to the back of the cars when they’re switching places.
After it cuts to a birds eye view of their car breaking off from the rest of the cars and
going off the motorway, then cuts to a tracking shot of the car going up the ramp,
then to a close up of baby with a straight face with his colleagues smiling and patting
him on the back, this connotes the seriousness baby takes towards his job, it then
cuts to a quick montage of baby swerving around corners and up an alley, where it
cuts to a longshot of a police car driving past, then cuts to baby stamping down on
the breaks until the police car drives past where baby speeds up all the way; then
cuts to a tracking arc shot of the police car with baby drifting around the corner and
speeding into the carpark. It then cuts to a crab shot of baby driving up the carpark
then panning to see baby park up which then turns into an arc shot of them changing
cars which then pans to a shot of them driving out the carpark.
Peaky Blinders

The establishing shot is a mid shot of Thomas Shelby walking out of his pub where
he pulls out a gun and it starts to track towards the gun in his hand; it then cuts to a
tilt shot of Thomas putting it back in his coat and showing his face which looks
prepared for whatever is going to happen. It then cuts to a pan of an extreme long
shot of a gang of men approaching him. Then it cuts to a tracking shot of a mid shot
of Thomas Shelby walking towards the gang where we think he's alone until we see
his gang move into the shot showing he isn't alone, the camera then moves back to
a wide shot to show how many people he actually has with him. It then cuts back to
the gang of men walking towards Thomas Shelby where we see the leader of the
other gang poke his head out of the truck driving behind him. It then cuts to a
tracking shot of the back of Thomas’s head where it turns into a ped shot to show us
how close each gang are to each other. It then cuts to a close mid shot of Kimber
and his gang where he's telling them to get their weapons out while tracking
backwards. It then cuts to a long shot of all Kimbers gang pulling out their guns, this
connotes how much fire power Kimbers gang actually has. It then cuts to a low angle
pan shot from the side of Thomas’s gang to show all them pulling out their guns; this
puts into perspective how much fire power they have compared to the other gang,
emphasizing they're going into a fight they are less likely to win. It then cuts to a still
wide shot of both gangs walking towards each other with the camera placed behind
The Peaky Blinders; this could connote which side the filmmakers want us to be
rooting for to win. It then cuts to a still shot of Thomas Shelby walking up to the
camera turning it into a close up shot that pans up to his face, it then cuts to in
between his legs using a canted shot showing a slightly out of focus kimber through
his legs which then changes and makes them the focus of the camera. It then cuts to
a close up of one of Thomas’s right hand men where he looks calm and ready; it
then cuts back to a long shot of Kimber and his gang looking a little unsettled, this
connotes the difference between each gang and how crazy The Peaky Blinders are.
It then cuts to a handheld close up of the other people in Thomas’s gang. It then cuts
to a low angle shot of Thomas staring directly at the other gang. It then cuts to a crab
shot slowly moving behind Kimber and his gang while Thomas tries telling him to
back down, which then cuts to a slow tracking midshot of Kimber while he laughs
and tells Thomas it's too late, emphasising the confidence Kimber has in winning the
fight. It then cuts to Thomas unphased by what Kimber said then it cuts back to
Kimber with his head looking to the left, to where it cuts to an over the shoulder shot
of Kimber to show one of Thomas’s men coming out of one of the factories with a
machine gun. It then cuts to a handheld shot of the man with the machine gun
coming to the front lines, it then cuts to a mid shot of kimber's men looking
concerned, then cuts back to a long shot of the peaky blinders with Thomas acting
very confident and then his other gang members holding their guns ready to shoot,
which then cuts to wide shot of Kimber's men pulling their guns out as well. It then
cuts to a close mid shot of the man holding the machine gun pointing it at Kimber,
which then cuts to an over the shoulder shot of the man with the machine gun
showing Kimber is staring right at him. It then cuts to an extreme close up of one of
the peaky blinders then jump cuts to an extreme close up of one of Kimber's men, it
then cuts to a birds eye view of both gangs, it then cuts to a close up of Kimber then
Thomas who are about to fight, when suddenly cuts to a slow tracking shot of
Thomas’s sister walking through Kimber's men into the middle of the battlefield with
a baby, where it cuts to an over the shoulder of the man with the machine gun
shouting at her with her shouting back, it then cuts to Kimber looking back at his men
looking confused.

It then jumps cuts to different shots while she's explaining why she's here. It then
cuts to a mid shot of Kimber's men looking confused but not putting their guns down
which connotes they're still ready to fight. It then cuts to an arc shot of the sister
where it turns into a wide shot Kimber, then cuts to a tracking shot of Kimber pulling
his gun out and shooting at Thomas, it then cuts to a mid shot of Thomas getting
shot with one of his men jumping in front of the gun shots to save him showing the
loyalty his gang has to him. It then cuts to different slow mo cinematic shots of
Thomas releasing he’d just been shot, then cuts to a shot of Kimber looking smug
and laughing like he’d killed him to a quick tracking shot of Thomas pulling his gun
out and shooting Kimber right in between the eyes, cutting to a wide angle shot of
Kimber's men looking bewildered and then cuts to a slow tracking shot towards
Thomas with his men in the background starting to lower their guns, where Thomas
tells Kimber’s men to go home as the fight is over. It then cuts to a birds eye view of
them walking away. Then it cuts to a low angle shot of The peaky blinders also
walking away and carrying away their dead comrade.

mid shot of his face looking into the distance, where it fades to dark and ends.

Maintaining continuity

Within media there are a lot of different ways you can break continuity, the ways to
keep continuity in your media production such as films or television shows would
consist of the mise en scene, the 180 degree rule etc. To keep continuity in film you
need to keep props and continuity, which means having objects that were in shot in
the same place for the whole thing, for example if a cup was in persons hand but
then they stop filming and come back but the guy stops holding the cup in his hand,
that would break continuity in the shot. Same with costume, if someones wearing a

hat then takes it off when they next shoot breaking continuity. Time continuity is if the
sun is out in one shot but in the next shot its pitch black, they have to make sure to
shoot at relatively the same time to not break continuity. Plot continuity is one of the
main things to look for as this could ruin the film if it's done, an example of this would
be if someone said they’re an only child but then go on to tell a story about a sibling
they have. Camera and audio continuity is also important as if you have the camera
being bright then in the next shot be darkened, it ruins continuity; same with audio as
if you have the audio levels normal then half way through the scene they just get
really loud it could ruin the scene. The 180 degree rule is also very important due to
the fact that it could throw viewers off by having two characters talking to each other
but they are both facing the same way, it wont look like they are talking to each
other.
