“Together we stand, Divided we fall”

When I was in grade school, my teacher in Values Education told us a story about the bundle of
sticks. The said story was about a father whose sons are fighting with each other. The father picked up a
stick and tried to sweep it on the ground and asked his sons if it swept any leaves. It didn’t so they shook
their heads. The father picked up more sticks and tied them together. He swept in on the ground and in
no time, all the leaves are in one corner ready to be dumped inside the trash can.

The sticks represent his sons. If we analyze the story and reflect it in our hearts, it’s sending us a
message that without unity, it’s nearly impossible to finish a task. Imagine working alone or working
together with your enemies, can you imagine fast progress? No because there will be something that’s
holding back the group from working together or if you can finish the task alone, it will cost you time. I
grew up remembering the  story about the bundle of sticks and its lesson. I choose “Together we stand,
divided we fall” because the sons represent the sticks and without unity or them being divided with each
other, the task will take longer time or in worse scenario, there will be no success on the task.
