Washing Machine

-One of the most ignored and most misrepresented segments of the history of technology. It is
unfortunate that the supremely useful and ubiquitous machine.

History
Year 1910- Alva J. Fisher’s, patent the first electric motor powered washing machine.

Year 1915- Harley Machine Company began a large scale manufacturing of electric washing machine.

Types of Washing Machine

A. Front-load Washing Machine- Are ideal for small laundry rooms or areas that are tight in
space. This type of washing machine has the ability to be stacked with an accompanying
dryer to increase space.
-has a large capacity that allows users to wash bulky items
easily or more items simultaneously, without limiting
cleaning performance.

B. Top-load Washing Machine- Are shorter than front-load washers and produce minimal
vibration. These washers are cheaper than other washers and are easier to repair.

-also incorporate a simple and straight forward control

panel, which is more infinitive for operation.
Mont Important Washer Parts

The Drum- its relatively simple part to look after, as it’s essential self-cleaning, but it doesn’t,
hurt to run a cloth around the inside of the drum.

Controls, Dials/Buttons-can be the stuff of nightmares for many users, particularly if you are
new in a machine

The Agitator-one of the most important washing machine parts, pole like attachment that rises
up in the middle of the drum and its jobs is to move the cloths around the drum.

Water Inlet Control valve-near the water inlet point of the washing. This valve gets opened
automatically and its clothes automatically depending on the total quantity of water required
and actually the solenoid valve.

Water Pump-circulates water through the washing machine. It works in two directions,
recirculating the water pump during wash cycle and draining the water during then spin cycle.

Tub-there are two types of tubs ion washing machine,

Inner-the clothes are loaded, where the clothes are washed, rinsed and dried.

Outer-covers the inner tub and supports it during various cycles of the clothes washing.

Motor-coupled to the agitator or the disc and produces its rotor motion. These are multi speed
motors, whose speed can be change as per the requirements.

Timer-helps setting the wash time for the clothes manually. In the automatic mode the time is
set automatically depending upon the number of clothes inside the washing machine.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB)-comprises of the various electronic components and circuits which
are programmed to perform in unique ways depending on the load conditions.

Drain Pipe-enables removing the dirty water from the washing that has been used for the
washing purpose.
