PRESS RELEASE

FIFTY-SIX (56) DIE IN KINTAMPO ROAD TRAFFIC CRASH

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) can confirm that, the total number passengers on the
two buses involved in the road traffic incident which occurred during the early hours of today at
Ampomakurom in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, are 108. The total fatalities
(deaths) arising from the Kintampo incident as of this evening is fifty-six (56) with fifty-two (52) cases of
varied degrees of injuries including three children and seven females.

Preliminary investigations can further confirm that, the buses, which are high occupancy Kia Grand
buses with registration numbers GT-3916-17 and GT5694-18 were travelling from Accra to Bolgatanga
and Garu in the Northern Region to Kumasi respectively collided head-on at the accident scene. The
buses are reportedly managed by Ankai VVIP and GPRTU transport organisations respectively.

Currently, varied numbers of the injured are receiving treatments at the Kintampo South District
Hospital at Jema, Techiman Holy Family Hospital and Wenchi Methodist Hospital.

While we commiserate with the families of the departed and victims of this incident, the unfortunate
experience must as well provide the catalyst for stakeholders in the road safety sub-sector to address
the long-standing gap of regulating the operations of commercial passenger operators. Motorist are
reminded that road safety is a way of life that that be achieved by observing basic safety precautions on
speeding, fatigue and destructive driving while passenger assume frontline roles by speaking up
against driver misbehaviour.

Thank you
