PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

2) Basically, re-creating an entire personnel file system that had been neglected for several
years. We were now being audited for our personnel records and these were found to be
missing information, misplaced, inaccurate, and / or out of date documents among other
issues. Additionally, we were dealing with two digital file tracking systems, MS Excel,
and a paper-based system.

3) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

The team included a large portion of the administrative staff in the division. The
administrative team had an overall manager who was a senior employee within the
division of the organization. The other admin assistants were younger people of diverse
backgrounds. Overall, they enjoyed their job and the organization was relaxed with
length of lunch or times, in and out breaks, and were not super strict with most minor
things which helped the morale of everyone working. There were some fatigue issues
with some tasks being redundant and some admin staff feeling bored with the more
mundane tasks. Interpersonal conflicts were minimal, with most understanding the
seriousness of the tasks at hand.

Fortunately, I was lucky to have a team of motivated people who were interested on
taking on a more complicated task for their skills. The project was a lot of trying to come
up with the best way of how to organize all this different information. Tasks were handed
out more based on what people wanted to take on, the benefit of having motivated and
intelligent people really helped out here. Even though some of the admin staff were new
and even new to working a job, they were very effective organizers and doers. This made
the task a lot easier. Our team had good humor throughout and good levels of
socialization inside the workplace.

4) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

I cannot say I would do anything too differently. I was lucky to have a good team with
intelligent and motivated individuals who wanted to do some good work. There were no
real instances of drama or upsets among the team as most wanted to take on their tasks. I
would say overall I could have been less stressed (The project was my responsibility) so I
may have been tense throughout the process.

I would recommend if you are taking on a project like reorganizing a file system, or
database, or any other type of organizing situation, find people who really like and enjoy
that type of work. Also, seek out individuals who are good at organizing. It may seem
simple, but it seemed that those with organized workplaces, like desks and workstations,
were a part of the best we had for this task.

5) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I have learned to look at your team and try and manage stress levels. Like I said above I
was lucky to have a good team to begin with. I would say if the project is your
responsibility watch your own stress level as well as checking on the team often. Having
an organization that does not have hard rules on lengths of lunch or being allowed to send
someone home early because they are not feeling well or are having a rough day really
helps as well. Even though I was not a manager in this situation I was supervising the
project, so I was allowed to, for example, send home an employee who was not feeling
well without going through a bunch of hoops and steps. Or in another an employee was
having some at home personal issues and was given time to go home and sort things out.
These kinds of very small things add up too much larger morale benefits.
