LESSON 2: EVALUATING FUNCTIONS
Review

Law of Substitution
If a + x = b and x=c

Then a + c = b
It calls law of substitution because we substitute x into c.

EXAMPLE A EXAMPLE B

If f(x) = 2x + 2, evaluate 1. ( ) ( )
1. f(5) 2. ( ) ( )
2. f(-3) 3. ( ) ( )
3. f(x+3)

ODD and EVEN FUNCTION

GUIDELINES FOR IDENTIFYING ODD or EVEN FUNCTION

 Every x in each given replace to –x

Then,
1. If the result is ( ) ( ) that is ODD FUNCTION
2. If the result is ( ) ( ) that is EVEN FUNCTION
3. If the result is not on the no.1 or no. 2 that is NEITHER ODD nor
EVEN FUNCTION

Example
Identify each function as even, odd or neither
