Reflection: History of Philippine Press

Every story has a history. This topic that I read is all about the history of
the Philippine press where the Philippine was born and nurtured a midst a
climate of political reform. The early Philippine newspapers played critical role
in the nation’s quest for freedom and independence. Legally, Philippine
newspapers three times have gained their freedom, only to find themselves
restricted today by handicaps partly if their own making. One promising step is
the founding of the new Press Institute. However, History has borne witness to
the Filipino’s struggle for freedom and justice. History records how the colonial
governments supressed the freedom of expression during 1800’s and 1900’s.
Any criticism to foreign tranny was associated with rebellion. In an age when
the internet, radio, and television were still non-extent. The nationalistic favour
is to be ingrained in the spirit of succeeding Filipino journalists throughout our
nation’s history.
Working hard is the main focus of any profession. As for journalism is
concern, as what I had experienced in reading this topic that the word “hard”
sum-up it all. To be a journalist is a very rewarding job. You will meet the most
interesting people and witness the most amazing of events. But speaking of the
history, the events and issues that had happened in the past, is very
devastating experienced by our journalist. Indeed, their working hands makes
a remarkable events up to the present times. They have been struggling in
updating the stories, issues and events because of the government hands.
Although, in that time, journalists are able to reached their aim to ensure that
he/she is recognised by the special stories to stand out in the country.
In the field of journalism, there are lot of learnings that you can get by
reading on the History of Philippine Press. The story of it has been considered a
vital part of our freedom and independence. The newspaper has been a
historical source for historians and contains views of events of the past. Aside
from learning the origin of Philippine Press, as they aim to raise the level of
consciousness with respect to oppressive conditions prevailing in the country.
Knowing the Philippine Press before and up to the present times, it is fun and
educational. Every issues and events from the past will leave us lessons and
learnings. It helps us to understand better why we are experiencing some
current situations like what we are experiencing now.
Eventually, these learnings I gave evaluated has a greater impact for the
future generations. By asking them an important question. Why do we need to
study the Philippine History of Press? Like any other story, it is filled with
actions and defeats. In order to win over the heart of your students, as a future
teacher, I will teach them the History of Philippine Press as if I am a story
teller, with that students can’t find my subject boring. Then, with that strategy
in asking questions to them, I will be able to develop their critical reasoning
and independence.
