SEE PAGE 9 BEFORE CUTTING
Step One:
Cutting lengthwise, parallel to the selvedge, cut (4) border strips as follows:
In order to preserve the inner section of the fabric, the tossed all-over floral, to use for the backing, you
will first want to cut off the outer (narrow) border motif, which will be used for the outer border of the
quilt top.
Cut lengthwise on the inside edge of the woven basket edge of the stripe. Cut ¼” outside or beyond the
decorative edge, the length of the fabric. Repeat to remove other border.
Next cut the outer edge of the border “ribbon”, again cutting ¼” beyond the edge of the decorative
basket weave motif.
Step Two: When the Quilt Top Center has been pieced and the first two borders have been applied,
measure your quilt top, per directions, before cutting outer border strips.
When cutting the border strips below, pay attention to the direction of the motif:
Cut (2) strips 4 ¾” x 47 7/8” for the side border edges and (2) strips 4 ¾” x 56 3/8” for the top and
bottom border edges or cut to the measurements of your quilt top.
Step Three:
Reserve the tossed floral section for the backing, to piece a 64” x 64” backing.

measurement. Sew the floral border strips to the opposite side quilt top edges. Press.

Sew the remaining border strips to the top and bottom edges of the quilt top center. Press.

Quilting & Finishing Directions:

1. QUILTING:

Layer the 64” x 64” backing right side down, batting and quilt top right side up. Baste the layers of
the quilt together and quilt as desired. Trim the backing and batting even with the quilt top.

HINT: My quilt was done with several different motifs. Several different shades of 100% cotton
quilting thread were used throughout. So-Fine by Superior Threads gives a beautiful look without
being too “thready” in appearance.

2. Binding:

Using the 2 ½” x 42” binding strips cut from the Berry Pink tonal (Tangled 1316-11) floral fabric; sew
the short ends together, into one long continuous strip. Fold the strips in half lengthwise with the
wrong sides together. Pin the raw edges of the quilt even with the raw edges of the binding. Sew the
binding to the top with a scant ¼’ seam by machine, joining the beginnings and ends of the binding
carefully. Turn the binding to the back and hand stitch using a matching thread with a small, nearly
invisible stitch.
